Very friendly staff who made me very welcome. Room very clean and comfortable. This hotel is close to the town centre which is within walking distance. Would recommend this hotel and would stay again when in the area

When we arrived we were told that they would be adding on VAT and that breakfast was not included, which wasn't mentioned on the website. VERY SHOCKED TO BE TOLD £100 FOR ONE NIGHT! It's meant to be just a basic room, we arrived late 8pm and left early so cant justify that money. Understandable £100 a night for a 4 star with facilities but thought premier inn was about value for money? We were told you have tp pay extra for WIFI thought it would be thrown in that price! We stayed at Nova hotel in Ipswich in the centre centre and we paid £60 for two nights and better quality. I agree with John430. When we had our breakfast, we were told we could have selected food from the menu but when booked the hotel they said you can eat as much as you like. WE WAITED ONE HOUR FOR OUR FOOD TO ARRIVE! Cant believe how a simple breakfast can take that long, I could see the plates sitting at the chefs bit for a further 10 mins and waitresses were not bothering to collect it, by this stage we were so annoyed that we felt like going up and collecting it ourselves. By the time it got to our table my kids eggs were hard. My kids were bored and restless having to wait that long, it ruined our plans that we had arranged for the day. When our food did eventually arrive it was very bland. Waitresses were slow at refilling the drinks and waited for 10 minutes before we could get bread, the muffins were not re stocked. The tables and floor were dirty. They looked like they couldn't cope and it wasn't even busy. What John said about the staff was right, they were no where to be seen and rude. I felt like our stay was misleading and the inaccurate pricing. Really poor value for money and definitely put off from booking again. The rooms were the only thing that was ok.

This Premier Inn is excellent. Positioned just outside the town centre (about one mile) makes it an ideal place to stay for sightseers and business people. Leave your car in the car park and either walk (about 1 mile) or bus into the town. If you walk, go through the wonderful colourful Colchester Castle Park, particularly good in spring. The Inn itself is staffed by very friendly and helpful people. Rooms are very clean with excellent showers AND plenty of hot water. Beds are comfortable with a choice of pillows. Food ok BUT one complaint my husband had a cooked breakfast, I only wanted a light breakfast but was not allowed to eat a 'grab and go' option at the table with my husband. This is a very popular Inn so beware you may have to book well in advance.

Room Tip: This Inn is on a main road so you may need to ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper.

Superb two day stop over. Reception staff were excellent. Very helpful with information about Colchester. The room was clean, comfortable and up to the usual high Premier standard. The walk into town took all of 10 mins and there are some super little shops. Ate out so I can't comment on the Beefeater.
Colchester castle opens in April so we will be back and stay with Premier again.

Room Tip: Stayed on the ground floor at the back. Very quiet.

You know where you are with Premier Inn, clean comfortable quiet and the staff are polite and friendly, and I must say the beds at this hotel are particularly comfortable. Breakfast was a mix between a buffet for some of the cold stuff and a waitress service for the hot and was an all you can eat deal, the waitress was very good ant attentive and asked us how much of each thing we wanted when we first ordered and then after we had cleared the plate asked if we wanted seconds. All in all as much as you could want from a Premier Inn.

Stayed two nights at this hotel on a visit to my home county of Essex. Convenient if coming by train (North Station) and 10 minute walk into town (albeit up North Hill). Could get a bus if necessary). In general all Premier Inns are the same so you expect a certain standard and that is what I got. However, I felt the lady member of staff who greeted me was particularly friendly (which I appreciated as I was on my own) and was very informative.
Despite the hotels location on the busy Cowdray Avenue, it is set well back from the road, rooms have double glazing, were quiet and I had a good nights sleep. I would most definitely stay again.
