rooms not big enough, showers pathetic, water pressure zero, stairs to bedrooms narrow and dangerous, fold down bed for grandkids blocked access to a room, breakfast facilities were insufficient ( seat 5 ) for our party of 6 adults & 2 kids. we booked and paid for 3 nights but stayed for 1, ended up at the GEORGE. there is no way that our family could, under any circumstance , recommend this facility. noticed a FOR SALE sign attached to building. garden gnomes encouraged to apply.

This is a brilliantly located B&B within walking distance of Colchester town center. The room was clean and well equipped with a fantastic shower and bathroom facility. Even though it is so close to the town center the room was very quiet and I had a great nights sleep. Had a very warm welcome by the host and the breakfast was in my opinion faultless. Overall I have no problem whatsoever awarding it 5stars as it was all you could ask for a small family run B&B. Thanks

I stayed here with my friends for a weekend in Aug-12 and was delighted with every aspect of our stay. We arrived late due to bad traffic but this wasn’t an issue for are host who was extremely polite and helpful and provided a very homely relaxed environment. The B&B itself is in an excellent location less than a 5 minute walk from the centre of town and train station. The rooms were awesome, well furnished and with lots of thoughtful touches that add to the warm feel of the place. The bed was so comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. The shower and toilet facilities were impeccable with plenty of shampoo/soap etc. The breakfast was one of the best IV had at a B&B with a wide choice of options available. All in all a brilliant experience and would defiantly stay again.

stayed here for 2 nights 03/04 aug 2012 booked the double room. room was clean and tidy well equipped with tv/dvd/kettle/hairdryer/radio/wifi,also some toiletries in the en suite too.en suite small but clean. the shower was a bit pathetic with its spray shower head i think its one of those eco ones that resricts water. the owner was away throughout the weekend but had people looking after the place and we were treated very well indeed.if your in the double room there is no need for a call to breakfast the kitchen is below you and the smell of bacon wafting up is awesome.all in all an enjoyable stay and town is a 2 minute walk via the underpass.

Rod was a friendly and talented host helped by "Buddy".

Good room, private facilities and easy parking for our visit to a Mercury Theatre production.
Exceptional value.

The loss is because the property, which is large and historic, is sold STC and will be unavailable.

Colchester is a town with abysmally poor central tourist accommodation.

We recently stayed in the twin room and it was delightful. A tad old fashioned with lots of pine bedroom furniture but more than made up for by the thoughtful touches like the lovely snuggly throws on the bed, the hairdryer, plentiful shampoo/conditioner and shower wash and biscuits with the tea making things (a rarity these days!). Really lovely fresh breakfast cooked to order. Short walk into town via an underpass. Highly recommend.
