“Evening Out”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

Booked at table for 3 when we arrived it was in the bar area, not a problem really apart from the fact you had to go back to the bar to order your meal.Friendly staff at the bar and drinks reasonably priced.. My partner had mushroom risoto which was delicious,my daughter had pork which came with very generous helping of mashed potatoes and a selection of vegetables. The pork was well cooked with crunchy crackling.I had Lamb Shank which came in a large dish with far too much gravy with little taste and the vegetables were not cooked enough for my liking. The lamb shank was however very tasty and tender.

“Sunday Carvery Lunch”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

We had planned Sunday lunch out and decided that we would try somewhere different which is how we ended up here. Glad that we did; food was excellent - all fresh veg, prepared by hand with a wide choice (which suits my other half as she doesn't like peas and carrots!). Choice of roasted meats (on our visit it was beef, pork or turkey) all cooked to perfection.

Very pleasant surroundings and, considering that this is in a little village away from the beaten track, obviously very popular. Shame that the weather wasn't a little better because there is a lovely beer garden to sit in. Will certainly go again.

“tea time treat”
Reviewed May 19, 2012

we popped in to the Black Lion on our way back from visiting relatives, we'd always seen the signs but never bothered to follow them. At first it felt a little but like we shouldn't be there, a few choice looks from the locals, nevertheless we took a seat at a table for 2 in the window. we hadn't been there 15 minutes when people started arriving in droves, we clearly had the table of choice as everyone looked to it as soon as they entered. the food, service and price were all good. we wouldn't hesitate in returning. one thing I always feel for is the tables, no matter how old a table in a pub or restaurant they can all be cleaned, how many times do they feel sticky even though you watch someone clean them, they passed the test, the table was very clean :)

“Great beer, nice meal, but shame the carvery wasn't sharp”
Reviewed March 19, 2012

Went here for mothers day in a group of 7. The choices of beers and service at the bar was excellent. It was moderately busy, this being mothers day. Nice table in the Restuarant area - roomy and light. Perhaps a little slow in taking our order for the good value 3 course meal. Nice starters (tomato soup was excellent) and sweets (jam Roly poly excellent). The carvery food was ok, but the big queue was created by slow carving - basically someone who didn't know how to carve and had a blunt knife. Tried to give someone the raggedy bits that had fallen off. Just a shame there was no sign of management to spot the problems and to gee everything up. Wouldn't rush here again for the carvers after that, but would come here for the normal menu.
