At first you think this is nothing much but once you get up close it is really is amazing. it was built about 130 years ago and has a strange buldge in the middle. It can be seen for miles and we always wanted to get up close. You can find in via some back roads in the middle of an estate.

you cannot go to the top as it has been closed due to the fact it is falling down with being so old.

Great memories of this landmark Rotherham folly. Used to ride our horse (RIP) through Scholes Wood, gallop across the heath and slow down by circling round the column. He was a bit of a handful! Returned for a more placid dog walk recently, and enjoyed looking again at this piece of Wentworth history. Sadly, still not able to visit the interior, as unsafe and there are no plans to repair and reopen. The view from the top must have been magnificent. It's history is interesting, for anyone needing more information read Geoffrey Howse' guide to Wentworth Monuments. Suggest including visit to Column as part of a walk round Scholes Wood and village, and see if you can find the ancient hill fort as well. Even better if you visit on horseback, using the bridle paths all around, and end with a pint for horse and rider at the Bay Horse in Scholes!

Keppel's Column, Scholes between Wentworth and Kimberworth
The column is 35m high, and built in 1778 in honor of Admiral Augustus Viscount Keppel. Its a shame that due to coal mining subsidence the column is no longer open to the public so you cant go up and it and see the view. It is a prominent landmark in the area and can be seen for miles around.
