Owner description: Situated in sixteen acres of historic walled and landscaped gardens, Wentworth Garden Centre is arguably the biggest and most attractive centre in the North Midlands. Its setting, in the former Kitchen, Italian and Japanese gardens of Wentworth Woodhouse is unique. We are not a member of any buying group or garden centre chain. We are a long standing, family owned independent and as such care passionately about our customers and their satisfaction. It's a policy that has seen the centre evolve from a tiny village operation into one of the largest garden centres in Yorkshire today.

Wentworth Garden Centre is always worth the trip but even more so during the Christmas season. We visited this week when their Christmas market was in full swing. They really make an effort to get you in the Christmas mood. Lots of stalls to wander round (more than last year) as well as the wonderful gift shop.

But...the real reason we're regulars is the restaurant. It's just lovely. In our experience the food has always been top quality. There is nearly always a queue but the staff are so apologetic and you can see that they're trying to serve you as quickly as possible. It's good to see the management mucking in to help at extremely busy times.

The staff on the garden centre bit are well trained and willing to help you whatever question you might have for them. It's great to have staff that obviously know what they're talking about and are willing to carry stuff to your car too!

We will carry on coming to this (not so) little Yorkshire gem.

Nice garden centre with a " very good restraunte " and the other usual shops selling all kinds of everything. The gardens are nice but i do not think it is very disabled or elderly friendly in all areas, too many uneven, cambered and gradient surfaces plus it is cramped for space for wheel chair users, no good at all when busy.A bit expensive too (just like all of them) which can be expected. I would have rated it poor if it was not for the restraunte being good.

Many thanks for your feedback.

With regards to your comments regarding the historic gardens, we welcome literally hundreds of disabled visitors each season (and many thousands more to the garden centre) with this being the only complaint we have ever received regards access in this area. The gardens were designed well over 200 years ago (in an era where disabled access was never even considered) as a pleasure gardens for Wentworth Woodhouse and throughout their continued restoration we have tried wherever possible to remain faithful to their original blueprint without compromising their delightful charm and unique character.

Almost all paths have either been made accessible or are being gradually repaired to accommodate all visitors as time and budget allows. There is currently only a small part of the garden that cannot be fully accessed by wheelchair users as there is no feasible way to install a 'regulations compliant' ramp, although this area can still be viewed from various elevated points.

Could I also please ask why you feel that you would have rated us as 'poor' when your letter (aside from the access issues) reflects very positively on us as a whole?

Once again apologies for any inconvenience you have suffered whilst visiting us and hopefully you feel able to 'give us another chance' in the future.

Kind regards,
Wentworth Garden Centre

Love wentworth garden centre! With something for everyone, you can easily spend an afternoon there. There's a very scrumptious tea room with delicious meals and home made delights, a very well stocked supply of plants, ornaments and equipment of every kind. The quirky little shops are reminiscent of a by gone era and the Christmas centre is like wonderland. Very popular and busy -

Nice place to have a wonder round but some of the things can be a bit expensive. It has a great little butchers where you get some decent meat and a little deli but like I said it can be dear.
