Have stayed at the hotel many many times over the past few years, and always enjoy coming back to it, but it is getting ready for some investment, the leather corner suite in the colonial bar has been ripped, the cushions have seen better days, tables are badly marked and stained, tables in the dinning room are showing alot of wear, it's lost it's sense of opulensce. Breakfast was good, always has been, and staff will always fetch anything that's not on the buffet, we ate out at night at Steak and Stuff, prob the best meal inSkegness if you want to get away from the hotel. The staff are always what makes this hotel, they really are great. The bedrooms vary depending on where you are situated, i tend to upgrade and have a double for sole use. The rooms over looking the sea are nice esp if you've got a balcony. Yes you do get noise during the night, and there are functions, weddings etc that can cause you a poor nights sleep, but all in all it's still a good place to stay in Skegvegas!!

The hotel was nice, great location, rooms very clean and the breakfast was really nice but we didnt sleep very well. We were woken on several occasions by noisy people coming in from their night on the town. The rooms are a good size but due to the age of the building are very hollow so the noise travels easily. Hearing people shouting at 2am obviously drunk is not what we needed with a 14 month old little boy. Also a lack of good thick pillows was a factor in the poor nights sleep.

The location is good - far enough out of the centre to avoid the craziness but within easy walking distance to the centre. The location is peaceful, set near gardens with a sea view in the distance. The lobby and hotel decor is stylish but in an old style, not dated though!

The staff on reception are organised and efficient, informing us of all essential information.

Our room was spacious with an individual style compared to other hotels.

There are two restaurants; one with Indian cuisine and the other with English. We dined in the English cuisine restaurant and we were very surprised by the high quality of the food. The menu choices were creative and the food was presented imaginatively. It was delicious. We were very happy with all aspects and know we would have struggled to find any other restaurant of a similar quality in the town centre.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Skegness wanting to escape the tackiness for a while!

Room Tip: We stayed in a superior double.

We stayed here over Easter, the location is stunning with amazing views across the Channel........clear blue skies. The room was clean, fresh, crisp linen, but the star attraction was the amazing breakfast, buffet style and fabulous quality. We'll certainly be back.

Stayed 4 nights at The Royal as part of an Edwards (South Wales) coach tour. First the negatives, My single room was very small with no room for a chair or bedside table. Space in the bathroom area was very restricted with one of those mini wash basins that inevitally spill water onto the floor. Now for the positives, the food was excellent, breakfast being the buffet variety with plenty of options whilst the evening meals were delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. The Colonial Bar was very convivial with plenty of leather settees to sink into. As, I gather this hotel was virtually delerict a few years ago the new (Indian) owners have spent a great deal on refurbishment and the whole place has a Raj feel to it. Although I feel critical about my bedroom I would certainly stay in this hotel again

Hotel was easy to find parking was not a problem and car park was clean and well kept except for the old red phone box that just needed a clean up. Entrance lobby was clean and
spacious. Reception staff were helpful and worked with a smile. There are large and easy to climb or descend stairs leading to all floors or a large lift to use that i had fun watching mobility scouter's revers into while i was waiting for friends i did not just do this all day! Room was on second floor, entry was with a card system, high ceilings giving the room a more open feeling loads of room to move around. large double bed with a hard mattress but that did not bother me or my wife. Bathroom was small with shower, i wasn't going to through a party in there so was fine. The only problem that there wa
s, was the water went hot cold hot cold all the time in a small shower where there was no where to hide. We had weekend with breakfast and 3 course meal, Breakfast was cooked sausages, bacon egg ect... or fruit and cereal . staff were very polite and hard working tea or coffee was brought to the table when asked for and all tables and dinning room was very clean and i think of a high standard. The evening meal menu was on the breakfast table for our party to pick from. Evening three course meal was well presented and was felling. There was night time entertainment on both nights from 60's 70's singer very entertaining. if you like a dance or a singalong . There is a pool table room darts and large screen tv for chill out time.
Overall the hotel was of a high standard and would defiantly go back .

Having just spent 2 nights at the Royal with my husband & daughter i felt compiled to write this review on our experience.
On booking we requested a family room as we have a 3 yr old, we were told that there was only one room available for 1 of our 2 night stay.
Not wanting to have to switch rooms for 1 night, we decided to manage with what was discribed as a larger than standard double bed.
On arrival we were allocated room 243, not at all what we expected..,.nothing like the rooms pictured on hotel website.
Very basic, not very clean, only a shower which was no good for bathing a 3 yr old, the bed was only a standard double, with very flat pillows & no headboard.
We decided it was only for 2 nights so was not going to make a fuss.
The Bollywood indian Restaurant opened at 5pm, we had a fantastic meal, service was not great, there was our table of three and another couple in at the time.
After a very uncomfortable night, my husband resorted to sleeping on the floor as all 3 of us could`nt stop itching.... at 6am tired & stressed i went to reception which apparently is 24hr, there was no one to be seen, i rang the bell...20 mins later the night porter arrived. He informed me that for £15 we could have had a fold up bed in the room for my daughter to sleep on," why were we not informed of this when booking".
After breakfast we were allocated another room, as for the itching.... the housekeeper said it was the detergent used for the laundry??
Later that day a coach party of oap`s arrived, we had planned to eat in the hotel resaurant again, Monday evening was" Viceroys Grill" we planned to eat at 6pm same time as the previous evening, we were informed that as the coach party arrived late and the restaurant had to cater for them first.
Our 3 yr old couldnt wait to eat so she had to eat in a very crowded bar sat on a sofa with her plate on her knee.
At 8pm the restaurant was available. food was`nt great.
We had a good nights sleep.....no itching???? Was not surprised as i was sure it was`nt the detergent used in the laundry .
Will not be returning.
