This art deco hotel was quiet and cosy. The hotel was quite empty so there were not many staff on hand. The room was clean but dated. We arrived early and was able to enter our room which was appreciated as we had travelled from London and needed to rest .We had not booked for evening meal but Tim the manager kindly offered to notify the chef that we wanted three courses. The dinning room was large, as there was only two couples for dinner it was lacking in atmosphere but the manager and wine waiter were very cheerful. The food was delicious and a reasonable price. We had a good night's sleep and left early the next day before breakfast. I am sure that this hotel would be more entertaining at the hight of the season but all in all we were satisfies with this hotel.

Just returned from a 2 night stay and I have to say it has gone down hill so much. We have stayed here before and we had no issues, the welcome we received from the Manager Ross who made everyone feel welcome and special was an especially nice touch and the rooms were fine the breakfast was fine and I left a glowing review, but this time our room was tiny the TV was like watching a phone screen stuck in the corner, the shower curtain basically attacked you when had a shower, as for the noise of the wind whistling through the windows it was absolutely horrendous and ended up buying some ear plugs from the pound shop. I’m not sure what has happened to the manager but it seems to me the heart has been ripped out of the County, the breakfast was poor compared to previous visits and the young waitress never smiled the 3 days we stayed, the table cloths were filthy in the breakfast room as were the windows and most of the cutlery.. Only plus side to the County now is the parking but that is not enough to make me stay again so unfortunately we will be looking at new accommodations on our next visit.

I visited the county hotel with my friend on arrival the reception staff were welcoming and gave us a parking ticket and time of check in. Once we checked in and found our room (room 41) we were greeted by a gap around the edge of one of the windows which whistled with the wind blowing through it but the room was clean as was the bathroom. They provide you with a kettle and tea/coffee/sugar and the little uht milk pots unfortunately the 2nd cup of coffee we had was full of lumpy milk . 2 pots had completely congealed so we returned them to reception who were lovely and provided us with a jug of fresh milk when we required it . Uncomfortable beds meant sleep wasn't the greatest and the mattresses hung over the bed base due to poorly situated headboards. There was a heater in the wardrobe and as the wind was blowing through we used this only it tripped the electrics in the room twice ! However despite these hiccups the staff were friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble . The breakfast was tasty despite lacking mushrooms. Lastly if you love the rocky horror picture show you would love the lift in this hotel one the 2 occasions we used it I expected to find frakenfurter himself stood in the lift . Needs completely updating and new windows .
