This was our sixth visit to the Merrydale Hotel in Skegness, that should say it all. Altogether over the six visits we have stayed in this hotel for seven and a half weeks. Cathy and Colin the owners are great hosts, Cathy being very friendly, and will go out of her way to help. Colin is a natural comedian and has everyone in stitches. The full breakfast gives a great start to the day and the facilities are more than adequate. This hotel is wonderfully placed to all the main amenities in Skegness, and is only a ten minute walk into the town centre. We always feel very welcome and relaxed when staying at this Hotel.

Had alovely break in May, staying with our 2 year old who is into everything. Cathy and Colin were fantastic. Very accomodating with the little one which was great for us.
Both the breakfast and evening meal were freshly cooked and of a good standard. What's more there was always a mug of tea and a chat available in the lounge if wanted. In the evening there is a well stocked, reasonably priced bar, always good with the little one.
No it's not the Ritz, never claims to be. Just good, clean accomadation which is reasonably priced.

Looking at some reviews on here it goes confuse me as this is a budget B&B at only £20ppn, one of the cheapest l have found.
Me and my OH went away for 3 nights on a budget and was very pleased with Merrydale.
The people are lovely and it is a place which is made to feel a lot like home.

Negative -
Although this is a great place there are a few things l think should be included.
We were in a big room after asking for an en-suite but a few things are

1. There is a window near the shower with no blind or frosted out window. This mean't people could see you in the shower so we had to put a towel over the shower, this solved the problem but you couldn't stand in a certain place if you didn't want the chance of being seen!
2. Soap wasn't provided which l felt is as important towels.
3. The bed wasn't really that comfortable if on your side
4. It isn't modern and something's do need do need updating. I felt just little things could make stuff better. For example a quick paint over on some walls.
5. The internet was difficult to get for us as we were on 3rd floor but there is nothing Merrydale can do.

Positive
1. Lovely lady owner
2. Breakfast is great and included in the money
3. Great location
4. Breakfast is at a reasonable time (9am) and it seemed you could ask for it earlier
5. Bed made and new towels etc (l think this is great for the price a night)
6. Everything is clean
7. There was room in here for a possible cot

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with an ensuite

On our arrival we were greeted by a friendly lady who showed us in to the lounge were we met a further 2 of the owners/staff who can only be described as 'slow' at best. There was a strong smell of stale smoke & other odours in the air! We were offered tea and biscuits & shown to our room.
The room was rundown with poor facilities, faulty doors, peeling paintwork, missing lights, uncomfortable cheap beds with lumpy matresses and general botched DIY work. It was, however, reasonably clean.
We only stayed for the weekend, but in that time no-one ever came into the room to clean, replace the towels etc. There was also no hot water (illegal?) or soap and although en-suite, I decided to visit the communal toilet once and it didn't even have a lock!
I had to find the gentleman owner to request another toilet roll and was made to feel like I was putting him out - WTF?
In conclusion, the location is great (quiet cresent) very closer to the town and seafront, it's cheap and the lady owner appears friendly and helpful. However, it's let down by a rude male owner and unacceptably low standards. The facilities are poor & even the basics ,such as hot water & comfortable beds, are non-existent.

We have stayed at the Merrydale three times now. there is always a warm welcome and a cuppa waiting before going to our room. The full english breakfast is very substancial and service very efficient. We will be there again in June when it will be our Golden Wedding Anniversry,a treat given to us by our family. This time we are having a ground floor room, previous times we have always found the beds and rooms very comfortable. It is only a short walk to the sea front so no need to be using the car a lot.
