As Skegness was always a favourite resort of ours when we lived in the north of England, since moving to the south (and substantially further away) several years ago, we nostalgically fancied revisiting Skegness again for a few days. We consequently enjoyed a very pleasant three nights break from Tuesday 4 March.
Skegness has retained its old charm and has remained a traditional family seaside resort boasting all the usual attractions including theatre, pier, fun fair, a lovely sandy beach and lots of shops and restaurants etc. We managed to take in a fabulous show at the Embassy Theatre during our stay called ‘Happy Days Are Here Again’ which we enjoyed tremendously (see my separate review on the Embassy Theatre Skegness).
We also enjoyed a lovely ‘Tea Dance’ at the North Shore Golf Hotel, which was only about twenty minutes walk away, where we were made most welcome.
We stayed at the small comfortable Eastleigh Hotel on Scarborough Road. The Eastleigh, which is more a very friendly guest house than a hotel, is ideally situated adjacent to the sea front and less than a minutes walk from the pier. The Eastleigh does have a small private car park to the rear of the hotel, but there is only parking for about four cars, which is not really adequate as the hotel has seven guest rooms. Street parking is available if you are lucky enough to find a space, failing that there is an adjacent pay and display car park.
Our room at the Eastleigh was number 7 on the top floor (three floors up) reached only by various staircases and landings (plus several steep steps leading up to the front door of the hotel). As I am in my late sixties with a heart problem, by the time I had carried our luggage upstairs I was left absolutely breathless and exhausted.
Our room itself, although fairly small was quite comfortable and extremely clean. There was an ensuite bathroom containing a lovely large shower enclosure and a toilet. Regrettably there was no space left in the bathroom for the wash basin which was fitted in the bedroom.
A really nice touch was a small ‘fridge in the room which contained complimentary water and soft drinks. Complimentary tea and coffee etc, along with a kettle was also provided as was a selection of toiletries. The really big bonus to us was that fast and completely free WiFi was available in our room – a very big thank you to the hotel owners for all these very thoughtful touches.
Despite the obvious potential drawbacks with the parking, we would definitely stay at the Eastleigh Hotel again and hope to do so later this year. We would however, due to my health problems, ask for a larger room on a lower floor which, following a discussion with the very helpful hotel owner prior to leaving, he said he would be able to do for us.
We would certainly recommend the Eastleigh to anyone wanting a conveniently situated, comfortable, extremely clean and very friendly hotel.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Eastleigh has an enviable location, conveniently close to the seafront, Skegness Pier and North Parade, and an easy walk to the beach, the centre of town, the bowling greens and Embassy Theatre. All rooms are comfortably furnished, well-appointed doubles arranged over three floors and all are en-suite with showers. Rooms at the front have a limited sea-view, and all other rooms face the rear of the property. Many unexpected little extras make a stay at The Eastleigh a little more special. The Eastleigh is 'room-only' and does not offer any meals, which is reflected in the attractive room rates. Allocated parking in the private car park is available for some rooms, otherwise there is ample on-street unlimited free parking. ... more less
