We stayed 1 night in July midweek. The double room we were given was very nice - in fact 3 small rooms linked together. As it was in the roof space it was warm but we did get a fan.
The staff were particularly helpful as they rang me to say I had forgotten a couple of items of clothing in the wardrobe. As we had already left Stamford they kindly posted them to me and I received the parcel promptly next day. Thankyou
Also at breakfast I asked if they had soya milk. They didn't but volunteered to buy some specially for me.
Our bathroom was nice with roll top bath, however it was hard to use the shower attachment on the bath without getting water all over the bathroom.

Room Tip: The rooms are very different so check to see what suits you.

We stayed for two nights at the Crown hotel. The summer evenings were very warm so we needed to leave the window open at night. After much hassle they did provide us with a fan for the window, but as other reviewers noted you can't leave any power on in the rooms when you leave since the room key activates the outlets. So during the day the room got warmer and warmer.

In the morning we were awoken very early to horrible loud garbage trucks and traffic in the alley outside our room. All of this would have been more recoverable but our friends stayed at a comparable place (quieter) down the road for 20 pounds less per day. So the Crown needs to deal with noise and power issues or at least reduce the price.

We informed the management of our frustration before checking out. They were hostile about the whole thing. Strongly not recommended.

Nice room, but it overlooked the side street .As it was a hot night the staff from the kebab shop were in the street talking keeping us and other guests awake.
Asked the staff for a fan for the room, but none available, which made getting to sleep difficult. Liked the quirkiness of the layout of the hotel and the central position in the town.
Food and menu good.

Room Tip: In summer ask for a room with a fan

My wife and I have stayed in the Crown Hotel on numerous occasions and have always found the service to be very good indeed. On a recent visit to Stamford we were only able to make a fleeting visit to the hotel for a light lunch and a drink. We parked our car in the car park to the rear of the hotel and walked to the bar via the courtyard area, which is furnished with numerous garden type tables and chairs most of which were being used by customers enjoying their lunch and the fabulous weather. Special mention must be made to the beautiful displays of flowers in tubs and baskets, they really were spectacular. We ordered a sandwich type lunch and one drink. We were served very quickly and efficiently by a helpful member of staff and left the hotel shortly after finishing our meal. The Crown during our visit was busy by a mixture of local Stamfordians and visitors alike. Being an ex-pat Stamfordian I will have no hesitation of staying in the Crown Hotel during my next visit and would certainly recommend this hotel to others who are visiting this most beautiful of towns.

The Crown at Stamford provided an adequate overnight stop but it’s not an hotel that we’ll be going back to. The first problem was to find the car park which is up a street at the side of the hotel but not signed. Miss it and you find yourself going the wrong way up a one way street! Our second floor room was reached up four flights of stairs and we could find neither fire instructions nor fire escape other than the main stairs. Whilst the reception staff was pleasant and helpful, bar and restaurant were uninterested. My main course in the evening had obviously been standing under a heat lamp, probably whilst my wife’s meal was being finished off so that the gravy had congealed on the plate. Our bathroom was a “wet room” which meant that when one of us had a shower the whole of the floor became wet as did other things in the room, such as the toilet.

We stayed here last year and had a couple of small issyes which were addressed in a great way for us without any hassle. Had no concerns with booking again and have just returned from a great stay. Room was fab. Appreciated the very very quiet ceiling fan as it was a hot weekend. Stay was quiet even though it was a Friday night . Bed was lovely . Breakfast was nice. Staff were accomodating and freindly . Had a meal on the night with relatives , one of whome had mobility difficulties and they accomodated us well. It was all washed down nicely with a very good B&B price. I might have thought twice about the full rate but .... heh , I know I'm going to have a good stay in the centre of town so I might be tempted even at the full rate. Well done .

We arrived fairly in the day. Received a rushed check-in by the restaurant manager (David) who did not explain the room functions such as how the shower and hot water operates. Wi-Fi not operational. Also, as the telephone was not operational I had to go back to reception to provide a list of problems with the room to be sorted or alternatively a request to move. This was met with an arrogant and rude response "there's nothing wrong with the room". This manager did not even offer to come and assist with problems such as the window that could not open or fix the phone. Upon insisting to see other room types he responded by saying they were full booked and all other guests were checked in. Astonished by the response I went back to my stuffy room.

Later that afternoon we went for drinks at the hotel and saw another two rooms being checked in by this manager - clearly some rooms did not check in and he was being untruthful.

Needless to say we avoided the restaurant due to this manager's presence

The next morning no hot water at which time the supervisor (believe his name was Freddie) was keen to assist in sorting out the problem and we also received great service from him at breakfast.

Upon check out no one even bothered to ask how our stay was, hence this review as I prefer to give feedback directly.

What a difference a staff member can make in spoiling a stay. It is actually a lovely hotel in a beautiful town but quite frankly I will not return due to this manager's rude manner and absolutely poor service.
