I visited with family in July. We had a magical evening: Pimms in the elegant bar followed by a delicious three course meal (great service, lovely setting and fresh wholesome salads etc..) Later we made our way to the open air theatre for a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream. We were impressed by the set, costumes and very high standard of acting throughout. Hoping to be back next year...

This was my second visit to see Shakespeare. We were near the back of the seats. Remember to take a cushion, seats quite hard. The seats are covered but could still be chilly, so take a jumper or jacket. I couldn't hear the words of the actors very well, same with the first visit. Grounds are beautiful and you can take a picnic or pre-order one. Long queue for drinks beforehand and long queue for toilets.
All in all, a lovely venue though for open air performances.

This was a birthday surprise and our first ever visit but we would certainly go again and, weather permitting, take a picnic to eat in the grounds. We were very impressed with the seating, wherever you sat you had a good view. The stage scenery had to be seen to be believed, we couldn't believe how they had constructed it to work in a small space but it worked a treat. At the interval snacks and hot and cold drinks were served all at very competitive prices, in fact, some larger shows could take a leaf out of their book and I'm sure would sell more. Everything was well organised and we couldn't fault a thing. We would recommend it to anyon.

A fabulous, magical evening watching A Midsummer Nights Dream.
Take a blanket (just in case) to put over your knees later. A 'must do' experience.

My teenaged daughter and I visited Tolethorpe for the first time to see a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream....and it was magical. First, this is easily reachable from Stamford; we did not have a car, and the taxi ride was approximately 6 pounds each way. Second, the location is lovely --- beautiful grounds in which to picnic beforehand (if you so choose), and the 'theatre' area has been specially constructed with fixed seats (all of which have a good view) and an overhead covering so that the audience stays dry, whatever the weather. Coffee and tea are served during the interval, a bar is available, and snacks may be purchased beforehand or during the intermission. We would definitely do this again -- check the website in advance to see which productions are being staged.
