“Superb room & service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

On arrival we were immediately upgraded & our room was beautiful. The service was excellent at all times of the day. Friendly but not overbearing. Wonderful extras.....bottled water, toiletries, & a very enjoyable taster bottle of complimentary quince. Nice touch. Breakfast was very good, all high quality & a menu with absolutely everything you could wish for. Thank you for a lovely stop over in my beautiful home town.

Room Tip: A Chic room can be highly recommended.

Thank you for your kind review. I do hope we are able to welcome you back to us very soon to enjoy some more of the Godminster quince vodka which, as you say, is very tempting indeed.

We stayed at the hotel for one night in one of their Luxury rooms which was spacious, clean and very comfortable. We had a good welcome from the man on reception on arrival and who pre booked us for a meal in the restaurant later that night. We later found that the tv in the room was not working correctly and reported it to the girl on reception (on two separate occasions), nobody came to look at it during the stay or were given an apology for the inconvenience. The meal in the restaurant was very nice and a good selection of dishes over the courses, but thought the deconstructed dessert fell short and a little over messed with. On the breakfast some of the juices, fruits and cereals had not been replenished from earlier use and therefore limited ours and others selections. The cooked food was very nice, hot and tasty. Our table did not have any jams or condiments on it as other tables around, so not setup as should. The hotel I would recommend to others and we would definitely stop here again, however the few small issues we had on the tv and breakfast just let it down slightly, but hopefully this will be addressed for future guests, as we filled out the comments card in the room giving the same content.

We spent a very nice Saturday in beautiful Stamford. Our room at the William Cecil was quirky but very nice. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bar is a nice place and has a good atmosphere, the service is good. We had booked a table in the restaurant. Our orders were taken, we were seated in nice surroundings. It then became an unhappy experience, my starter was cold. I told the waiter, no solution offered so I ate it anyway. Our main courses arrived, minus vegetables. It does say on the menu to add what veg you require to the order but we forgot, and the waiter did not offer any. We ordered some vegetables, whilst these were being produced our main dishes got cold. We ate the dishes anyway. I think three pounds fifty pence for a bowl of elderly carrots is somewhat excessive also. We did not order a pudding but were each given a home made truffle. I am sure that these would have been delicious if thay had not been frozen solid. I nearly broke a tooth on mine. The wine we chose stated that it was a 2011 bottle ours was 2012. It would have been good if this could have been explained to us. All in al not the best meal we have had by any means. Breakfast the following morning however was very nice. The reception staff need a mention as very helpful and pleasant.

I was very disappointed to read your review and apologise for the issues that you experienced at dinner. Our head chef and food & beverage manager were equally upset that you came away unhappy with your evening meal and have both made several changes as a result of your feedback. I am pleased that you enjoyed breakfast and that you found the reception team to be very pleasant and helpful. We hope that we are able to welcome you back to The William Cecil in the near future and I would be very happy to make the arrangements for your return visit-should you wish.

Madam and I have been going past this hotel for years, it used to be The Lady Annes.... we saw that they are now dog friendly so thought we would pay a visit. It was fabulous. The food was top notch, we had the burger of the day and it was superb. The young waitress Maria looked after us and was very pleasant and polite. We both loved the decor in the garden room where we sat. For dog lovers the added bonus is walking out of the hotel and walking through the gardens into Burghley Park , what a great spot. There is a view of the 3 churches in the distance that is great. We will definitely go back and try out the restaurant.

I have been and stayed at quite a few hotels in and around Stamford , and this Hotel is perfect my husband and I were looking for a wedding venue for our wedding in May this year and as we wanted to have a weekend with guest coming from all over it was important to us that everything was just right. Key for me was good beds , great food , friendly staff and nothing to big that you lost your guests throughout the Day!! Many places we stayed fitted the bill in some areas but not all until we went to the Willaim Cecil and wow what a brilliant wedding we had , every guest has said to us since that not only was it the best Wedding they had been to but the loveliest hotel , not pretentious but intimate , friendly just perfect.
I have to say Juliet bird in wedding planning and all the team ,front desk ,food and beverage manager Tom , chefs , kitchen and bar staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble and they as far as I am concerned exceeded my expectations in every way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Any one wanting a relaxed superb hotel this is definitely the one.
The company definitely has the right ethos and I know having had a Hotel myself for many years. Well done Hillbrooke!!!

Room Tip: Chic or luxury are the best some of the classic are a little small but all good standard

This was our first family visit to the restaurant. We have tried several times to make last minute reservations but we have always been unlucky and have dined at the sister establishment - The Bulll and Swan - just down the road.
We found the interior decoration of the lobby, bar and restaurant clean, tidy and interesting and thankfully far away from the current 'chain' styles.
The service by the young staff was efficient, friendly and welcoming.
We found the predominantly meat and fish menu - mostly local produce - to our taste; vegetarians might struggle a bit. We all enjoyed our food.
We found the pricing of both food and drink to be very acceptable.
There is an excellent terrace area but unfortunately it was a bit too chilly to make use of it.
There is a good sized car park and access from both the town and the A1 is very good.
We plan to return !

This is a combined review of two stays. The first visit was not a complete success and our complaints (via the hotels review form we completed) lead to a complimentary visit. Overall there is a certain charm to the hotel with lots of nooks, crannies and corridors reflecting the various buildings that make up the hotel. Food was overall good on both occasions but the shambolic service of the first visit had improved to average on our second. Rooms are big and traditionally furnished but quite cosy and the bed was excellent on both occasions. Some rooms overlook the main road at the front of the building but didn't notice any noise. Staff were very friendly but the management and direction of them was overall still questionable.

Thank you for returning to The William Cecil and I am pleased to see that service has improved since your previous visit. We have recently taken on a new Food and Beverage Manager who is working hard to further improve the service standard and will continue to do so. I am delighted that you enjoyed all other aspects of your stay and I do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back once again.
