Fantastic food, good prices, great service, quaint place to go, really friendly staff. Never disappointed. Warm atmosphere, freshly cooked food, always a regular for us. Vegetarian meals to succulent steaks.

Candlesticks is a bit of an oddity. Its quirky decor and demeanour come straight from the 1970s, food and all, but their attention to detail, and the high specification of everything is just superb. Our room, compact and bijou, was very comfortable, two excellent single beds, and the food in the restaurant in the cellar, still riffing on that 70s vibe, was great; my melon starter with sherry dressing was excellent and my grilled Espada (a fish much loved in Portugal) was delicious. My wife had an excellent prawn cocktail to start, and a Lemon Sole in a gorgeously fruity and fragrant tomato sauce. It didn't come cheap (we had a bottle of wine, a couple of pints, and a large whiskey too), but then why would it? What you're getting is kind, clever service, done by a dedicated team of nice professionals.

Loved it loved it loved it.

Room tip: Room 8 is in a narrow wing, so it has windows on two facing walls.

Stayed for one night as we were guests at a wedding nearby. It's a very quirky guest house. Some say outdated but you're not paying for a Hilton! Our room was clean and very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. You can pay extra for a cooked breakfast but there are cereals, yoghurts etc in the room. We were also given a small bottle of fizz as a welcome drink. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. Perfect for a short get away.

Stayed here last night. Great little place. Very dated but I'm a good way. Loved the quirky little retro things like the hosepipe hair dryer and the curly wired telephone. Guy that's runs it is a nice bloke, very friendly. Would definately stay again.

I have been here for years.

We went for a Saturday evening meal and it was as excellent.

First we sat at the bar with the menu and a drink. Ordered our food and then taken downstairs to a candle light restaurant. The lighting is by candlelight and gives such a romantic ambience.

The staff are attentive and very professional and helpful.

I cannot find a single fault. I would thoroughly recommend Candlesticks.
