My friend and I had booked a spa break. We had a lovely time at the fantastic grounds, the room was adequate and clean, the building fabulously old with classic features and almost all the staff, friendly, helpful and welcoming.
However, there was one staff member, Julian if I am not mistaken, who, when we went for dinner , took one look at us ( we are non white) and said the restaurant was full up and we should have precooked. We had prebooked and insisted that he double check. He went in, pretended to check and then let us in. He then rudely threw the seviette on our laps and left. We totally ignored him and got the other lovely staff to serve us the rest of the evening. We also noticed that at least 10 spaces were empty in the restaurant till the time we left ( we were the last to leave that evening).
I then raised the issue with another staff,Mr James, if I m not wrong ( without specifically mentioning who did this)and he could not have been more lovely. He apologised and we left satisfied.
The only reason I mention it, is for other visitors and management to be aware, as I would not want him to get away with this behaviour.
The hotel and the luxury facial were totally relaxing and exactly what we were looking for.More
