“So good, we have rebooked”
Reviewed December 15, 2009

We originally visited New Hall last year and had a lovely time. It was summer and we enjoyed eating outdoors and using the leisure facilities. We had a lovely room and enjoyed the meals immensely. We found the staff attentive but not obtrusive. We returned last month and this time had a beautiful room overlooking the lake. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, we checked in early, had a bottle of wine delivered to our room plus slippers so we could walk comfortably to the spa, a pillow menu!! Next morning our breakfast was promptly delivered at no charge. I am interested that many of the reviews mention the poor attitude of staff and I am surprised by this as it is often one of my ciriticisms when visiting a hotel but on this occasion is the reason we are returning this weekend! We found the leisure facilities to be excellent, not too busy either and on the day we left when I asked for a slightly extended check out they were most obliging. It was great value for money also, we booked directly wtih the hotel.

We stayed one friday night in November and had a lovely relaxing stay. We had a classic room overlooking a courtyard area. The room itself was adequately sized and very nicely decorated and most importantly for me, it was clean. There was a large flat screen tv, a couple of bathrobes (which didn't get used) and a small seating / desk area. The bathroom was just 'okay' - the sink / bath edges and tap rims could have done with a scrub and some bleach.

Dinner was of a mixed standard. The duck liver pate for starter and the belly pork for main was lovely, but the 'new hall hot pot' was below average. Breakfast was very good and there was a large variety of hot and cold options.

We had a short walk around the grounds and had a peek at the health facilities and the 9 hole golf course. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try either, but we certainly would if we were to return to New Hall.

The only negative thing I have to comment on is the the lady receptionist who checked us in. We didn't check in late and there was nobody else waiting at reception, but she wasn't very friendly. This was highlighted in the morning. We were being checked out by a receptionist (male) and the same lady receptionist was dealing with another couple. A postman came up to reception to get a signature for post. She finished first but completely ignored the postman and proceeded to gain entry to their back office. She didn't ask him to wait, she just completely ignored him whilst she chatted to our receptionist. The postman had to interupt her and asked her to sign for their post. I thought this was very rude, since she clearly saw him standing there.

However, despite this, I would highly recommend this hotel.

We came here for a wedding. What spoiled it was the 'couldn't give a toss' attitude of the staff. Purely lazy and not customer focused or helpful at all. What a shame, as that made such a bad first impression it all went down hill from there.

We had a one night stay at New Hall to celebrate my husband's birthday & were very pleased overall with the hotel. We booked a classic room in the new wing having read that these rooms had recently been renovated. It was extremely nice; clean & well-appointed. We made use of the spa, using the gym & swimming pool, which were both in good condition. In the evening we ate in The Bridge a la carte restaurant; this was included in the package we booked. The food was lovely (small portions but that is what I'd expect) & the service attentive. The following morning the breakfast was also tasty; service was a little slow but there were a lot of people around & we weren't in any rush. Afterwards we had a look around the old section of the hotel which dates back to the 1600s. Worth a look. Overall recommended for a special occasion.

Myself , wife and son stayed at this hotel back in March. Not only did they make a mess of our food reservation they didn't have the manners to rectify the mistake. Apparently customer service is above them.
Our room was dirty..very dusty. We suspect the sheets were not changed in the several nights we stayed.
The average age of the staff is seventeen and the majority of which we saw smoking outside the hotel as some point or other.
Not a nice experience at all.

as i pulled into the long drive, i knew it was going to be a great place to stay. the hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and exceptionally maintained. check in smooth, all staff were so helpful. The hotel really provided a personal touch.

We stayed in a suite called the Gloriosa - was fantastic, lovely bedroo0m. great big hall way and big living room too - perfect as we travelled with a baby and left him to sleep whilst we enjoyed a comfortable evening ordering room service.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff when it came to helping us out with food for the baby - sometimes you worry about taking a young baby to pklaces but they were so helpful. would highly recommend
