“Old world charm, excellent meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

We stayed on a bitterly cold night in early February, but the log fires were burning and the Hall looked very pretty surrounded by light snow. Our room was warm - small, but comfortable, and the bed was as good as my own at home. The staff were especially friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to make our stay as special as possible.

We had drinks in the lounge before our meal - a touch on the chilly side, as a wedding party was using the outdoor marquee facility (brrrrr....!!), and kept coming back into the main house (perhaps to get warm?), and very inconsiderately leaving doors open. However, the main dining room was lovely, oak panelled and warm, and the food - nouvelle cuisine - was delicate and delicious.

We slept well, had an excellent cooked breakfast, and wished that the weather had been warm enough to do more than a brisk walk around the grounds. It really was too chilly to linger. However, we enjoyed our stay, and it did give us reasonably close proximity to Birmingham without being in the city centre, which was our main purpose. I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Room at the rear overlooking the grounds

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary after being recommended by a friend and it more than lived up to our expectations. The hotel and grounds were amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was beautiful and the staff in the restaurant were faultless. Breakfast was delicious, served to our room, a real treat. We will hopefully being visiting again very soon.

Room Tip: We upgraded to executive suite which had lovely view from bay window

We also visited this hotel, as did a previous reviewer, for the Killing Game Murder Mystery event on New Year's Evening and we had a really good time!! Loved the hotel, our room was spacious, warm, clean and very comfortable. The hotel setting is great, the food was good and the murder mystery was excellent - we didn't guess the killer's identity either but what fun!!

Despite it being our first meeting, we greatly enjoyed the company of our younger fellow diners and their enthusiasm carried us along while we searched for clues........still got it wrong though!!

The disco struck up after the unveiling of the murderer and the subsequent explanation of clues and frustrating red herrings, and it was a super disco - stayed on the dance floor nearly all night, absolutely cracking.

Wouldn't hesitate to return once we have saved up again and would like to take this opportunity to complement you on your great staff - thank you!!

We had a very mixed service!! When we arrived it seemed very good however once we say down with our drinks things were very slow. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks . (water 3 times before we got any) and we had to ask twice for wine !! The food was ok however the portions small. The cheese platter was laughable .... It looked like someone had finished a cheese platter the pieces of cheese so small. We asked to either send it back or get some more cheese. We got more cheese which is what should have been on the plate in the first place. The hotel looks amazing from the outside but the restaurant lets it down

New-Hall-GM, General Manager at New Hall Hotel & Spa, responded to this review, February 14, 2013
Dear DMFL65,

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear that the level of service you encountered in our restaurant was not up to its usually high standard. Please accept my apologies and be assured I have reviewed your comments with the relevant departmental managers in order to address the shortfalls experienced.

I presume, as you have not made any comments pertaining to the other extensive facilities New Hall Hotel & Spa boasts that all other aspects of your stay met with your satisfaction. Should this not be the case then I would welcome an opportunity to discuss this with you further.

Kind regards, Simon

Stayed here several times always had a great stay and wonderful meals all the staff are local which is great as they have a lot of local knowledge.

Rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The grounds are great to walk around and explore.

The pool and spa is compact and you have to walk outside to get to it so can get wet if raining or snowing but all good fun !

Thank you for a wonderful stay and love your staff always polite professional and helpful.

Had a day meeting here a few years after a memorable sales meeting at the New Hall Hotel. It's really classy - loads of character and you get the real feel of being away from it all and in the rural countryside, yet a stones throw from Birmingham. Highly recommended
