We often come to Taunton to see friends and normally stay at the castle hotel but after a string of avarge stays and one very poor one we took the advice of friends and tried the Farthings hotel as the hype of this up and coming hotel was brought to there notice. Its pretty much as there website sugguests a mini 'River Cottage' there own animals running free from chickens to peacocks and a lovely orchard. The rooms are large, very clean and well presented but the real gem of this hotel must be the food. The menu was well written and full of choice. My starter (West Bay Crab) was like Art on the plate and was stunning in every way and the main (Lamd neck fillet from a butcher down the road!) was just to die for and Fell apart in the mouth with a burst of flavor. best meal I have eaten out in years. Congrats.

We stayed one night. The hotel is a cross between a B + B and small hotel and is very comfortable throughout - quaint. Good sized bedrooms. We did not eat there as wanted to go out into the surrounding villages.

We had lunch. The menu offered a good choice including fish, which was I had, and very good it was to.

The public areas are very comfortable, with a log fire, and chairs you could sleep in if you wanted.

Service was low key and efficient.

Stayed at this hotel based on the reviews I have seen on this site, and It truely is a great hotel, staff were friendly and helpful the food was second to none in fact better than Ive eaten out in many years. The menu was well thought out and the wine list was impressive. Rooms were very large with great views. Breakfasts was great the next day, homemade butter was a lovely touch. In fact I cant fault it in anyway but like the title suggests it comes at a cost. That said I will be back because I believe you get what you pay for and it was worth every penny.

I stayed overnight on business and dined in the restaurant. The bedroom was well-furnished, immaculately clean, and the bed very comfortable. It was like a home from home and I could have stayed for the week! The staff and owner/s couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and dinner in the restaurant was first class! Would I go back? Certainly! Will I recommend to friends? Without doubt!

Never stayed at the hotel but attended a wedding earlier this month and I would just like to say how good it was, the hotel is perfect for an advent and the attention to detail was amazing from start to finish. The food that you normally get at weddings is thrown together after the top table is served but I was on one of the last tables and the food was not just hot with the Lamb rack perfectly cooked but looked at tasted great and the lemon cheese cake was so fresh with a super glaze. All the staff were friendly and helpful at all times a special thanks to the the barman (Gary I think?) for putting up with us all while a little happy. Super place.
