“The Old Mill - does exactly what it says on the tin !”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

We just had a wonderful week staying at The Old Mill which was exactly as described and comes highly recommended by us. If you want to be close to Taunton yet in the countryside enjoying a comfortable 4 bedroom cottage sorrounded by farmland then The Old Mill won't let you down. We'll definitely be back next year !

Thanks Liz

The Old Mill is a wonderful place to stay. Liz Bray the owner is a delight and very welcoming. I stayed here with my husband, two other couples and our 3 children at the beginning of August 2012. The accommodation was spacious and very well kitted out. Toilet roll, shower gel and hand wash were even provided! The kitchen was well equipped and the utility had a washer dryer. The mill itself is cosy and well appointed. The beds are comfortable and have above average bed linen. We had access to the spa for a whole day using the hot tub. Due to it being my husbands 40th we wanted to have longer access to his area. Liz was kind enough to allow us to have this area for an extra few hours. We had some spa treatments. These were really wonderful; the lady administering them was a joy and we all felt thoroughly relaxed! The location is superb and is near Weston super mare, cheddar, Wookey and all other main attractions. The outside area is fantastic! Under the large tree there is a hand made tree bark table and chairs. This was Greg foe eating at especially in the wonderful weather we were lucky enough to have. I would thoroughly recommend this place. It's a real treat! Enjoy! :)

I thought that I should add my review because it may be very disappointing for anyone who expects spa facilities. As others have mentioned, the jacuzzi is housed in a small outbuilding and isnt luxurious.

It is a car drive away from any shop so take all your supplies with you.

Although the countryside is very pleasant, the actual surroundings are, as mentioned on their site, that of a working farm and not very picturesque with modern farm buildings which appear to be used for car repairs.

I should imagine if you are staying as with a hen party or other party activity with everyone in high spirits you are less likely to be concerned about the surroundings but I cant recommend for a family stay.

My mum and I stayed here for two nights as part of a "Groupon" deal for my birthday. We have mixed feelings about our stay as the accommodation was good but the "luxury spa" was anything but, more like a hot tub in someone's garage/garden shed! For the price we paid it was acceptable but had we have paid full price we would've been rather disgruntled to say the least!

NEGATIVES:
- Firstly, there was no one to welcome us or check us out. I don't want someone to be around for long or frequently but someone to greet us on arrival, show us around and answer questions for five minutes would've been most helpful! There was no-one or no clear place to hand the keys into at the end of our stay either. The family staying in "The Old Mill" next door also complained about this to us.

- When we did go in search of someone we couldn't find anyone..it was not clear where the "office" was. A woman saw us and spoke to us through an open window...I can only assume she was the proprietor as she didn't introduce herself, we appeared to be an inconvenience to her!

- Meare court requires more sign posting. Where is the "office?", where is the "bar" we read about in the cottage literature?

- The lounge was cold and could've done with more heaters.

- The "Luxury spa" - If that's luxury I'd hate to see basic! It was dirty and the flooring consisted of concrete slabs that you would find in someone's garden/garage. The hot tub was disgusting and really needed cleaning, particularly the cover.

- Mislead: We stayed two days and could only use the "spa" for four hours on the second day, 2pm-6pm. Really not worth the money!

- The mattresses have seen better days, very uncomfortable and didn't sleep well. The bed in one of the rooms has broken slats. This should have been picked on and fixed before we arrived.

POSTIVES:

- Our accommodation, The Granary, was absolutely lovely and sympathetically restored. It was well equipped, modern but in keeping with the style.

- Plenty of hot water.

- Lovely views.

- Quiet and peaceful.

Room Tip: Avoid the broken beds!

We booked the Old Mill with exclusive use of the spa for our daughter's sweet sixteen party (a sleep-over for 8 with a difference). The location was picture perfect, the accomodation ideal for the party - plenty of room and the noise the girls made did not carry to the other properties - they loved the sauna and hot-tub experience. The owner Liz could not have been more welcoming and it was 'the best party ever' according to the party guests.

10 of us stayed at Somerset Spa for my bridal shower in The Old Mill, we had a wonderful time. The weekend was perfect. The accommodation is so welcoming, homely and very clean!!!! We had a fun Saturday using the Spa facilities (which we had exclusively) and my massage was unbelievably relaxing. I would defiantly recommend Somerset Spa for any type of holiday be it, friends, family or exploring the beautiful peaceful surroundings. Liz is very helpful before and during our stay helping sort out all our requirements and very welcoming!!! Somerset Spa exceeded all expectations, thanks you Liz!!!!!!

We stayed at Meare Court for a hen weekend, and the accommodation and surroundings were perfect for all 20 of us.

The location was private and secure, and the house was most importantly clean throughout.

I personally didn't have any spa treatments but I heard nothing but compliments from the other girls about their experience.

The hot tub was great and cleaned daily by the owner. Any other queries raised with the owner was dealt with promptly and with a smile. You never felt like you were being an inconvenience.

The owner does have a puppy who does roam around the grounds but is far from vicious. She was very pleasant & playful and most probably more scared of us than the other way round. I don't think I heard her bark once!!

I would most definitely stay again and am even condiering hiring the smaller property available in the near future for a family get away.
