Having looked @ Quantock Orchard's website, we were seduced by the promise of five star quality spa camping and duly booked a night's stay in our tent.

Having pitched up, we went in search of the promised heated outdoor pool, jacuzzi and suchlike and found:

A poorly heated pool that was not practicably usable.
A changing room which was in fact a disabled toilet with urine on the floor.
Coded keypads which prevented entry to the other facilities.

On enquiring @ the site office as to how to gain entry to the jacuzzi, etc, we were informed that doing so entailed a charge of £5 per person per day. As it was already 1630 hours, we were told that the facilities would all be closed up @ 1800 hours and we should therefore pay £10 each to gain entry for the following day also.

Reluctant to do this, we packed away and left as we felt that our very reason for visiting was no longer there. Without these facilities, Quantock Orchard is a very ordinary campsite indeed.

Having revisited their website since, it can be seen that there is a charge for these facilities yet these charges are not made clear and I was able to find them only by searching hard.

Yes, it is a "spa" campsite but it needs to be made clearer that the use of these facilities is not included in the £25 per night pitch fee to avoid future wasted journeys and disappointment by others.

I anticipate a defensive response from the proprietor to this review but can assure any reader that this review is a fair representation of our experience.

This review does not provide or aid any prospective customers. We clearly stated that our gym facility is extra. If asked at the time of booking, we would have mentioned this charge. Even most hotels charge extra for using their gym. The pool is free and heated to 32 degrees, we can not offer more than that it is an outdoor pool. The customer appartantly arrived on the sunday, which raises suspicion, as we have no record of this customer ever staying at our park.

On arrival at the park there was no one around to check us in, the park seemed nice and there was a good play area for the kids. The static caravan we stayed in smelt very musty and was not very plesant. The bed in the living area was a pull out and was very uncomfortable, and there was no curtain seporating this area so was a bit awkward trying to get dressed and undressed, as there was six of us in there. The shower block was clean and had two showers but only one was working, also shower area was very small. Overall the campsite was ok but I was very dissopointed with the caravan as it was very small and could have done with a few bottles of ferbreeze emptying in it before we arrived.

Room Tip: take a bottle of ferbreeze with you

Thank you for your contribution. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your holiday. We would like to apologies that no one was present on arrival I can only suggest that our staff were assisting other guests or working on our campsite when you arrived. We sincerely apologise that you felt the caravan was not up to standard, we have several dedicated cleaning staff who try their best to maintain the statics to the highest possible standard but we are disappointed that this caravan did not reach this level. We have been extremely busy this year so often we have less than two hours to hand over the static to our new arrivals, which is not ideal. As for the size of the static we would advise all our guests to provide all their requirements when booking so that we can reserve a static that is suitable. The shower block has four showers for each sex not two as stated in this recent review.

Had a nice long weekend stay and found most things to be O.K. Site seems to be well maintained with well kept hedges and bushes. Warden was very helpful and toilets and showers were clean and everything was in good order. This site is close to the West Somerset Railway, so if you have an interest in steam railways its a good place to stay. Also it is quiet at night so you can get a good nights sleep. The only thing that I could say was a slight concern was that some pitches were a little close. This is probably my problem as I like a little room and I know some like it this way. All in all found it to be a nice relaxed site and well kept.

On arrival at the site it appeared well maintained and looked lovely. However on the first morning of our stay we realised that all was not as it would seem!!! For the whole duration of our stay there was no hot water in the shower blocks and after speaking to the site warden, this problem seemed to have occured back at the end of the peak season, (September!!!!) Despite being reassured by the owner of the site that an engineer was resolving the issue; not one of our party spotted such an engineer during the duration of our 4 day stay. Power cuts happened daily during our stay; this affected static and touring caravans. When raising our concerns with the site owner, we were faced with contradicting information and very little interest!!!!! Basically; to cut a long story short; the owner of the site was not at all interested in the welfare of his customers during their stay on his park and seemed more interested in the fact that he had taken his money and therefore didn't assume any responsibilitiy thereafter!!!!

I am sorry but we find this person very difficult to believe. Most of our customers are delighted with their holiday at our campsite and return frequently. Our reviews posted on other websites have been excellent. In addition, this Park has frequently been awarded 5 star status by the British Quality standards and four pennants by the AA four over 12 years. Last year we were awarded within the top 100 sites in the UK as voted for by our customers. More details about our campsite can be viewed by clicking on to our website.
In regards to the review; we had renewed the electrical system before this person wrote his/her review and have the full electrical safety certificates, we also installed new boilers at a cost of £ 6000 ($9000) eighteen months ago, these a four Rimini on demand boilers which are the 'State of the Art' for water heating. We find it hard to believe that this review has any credit and is totally untrue. We would welcome anyone to visit our campsite and see for themselves.
We believe this person was not a customer and has never stayed at our campsite, he/she must have an axe to grind possibly living in our local village; because the local people do not want the campsite to operate. We are looking to take legal action if required against this individual for posting these untrue comments.
