“First visit will return”
Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

Turned up at 12 as it opened last Friday. Luckily we got a table which can be a problem on Friday lunchtimes we were informed.
I have intended to eat here for a long time and I was not disappointed.
We ate off the set menu and the food was delicious. Service was excellent and friendly.
I will be returning in the near future to eat off the specials board as it looked fabulous.

“We soon forgot about the wonky table”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was a return visit after many months. Upstairs has been opened for more tables and although we were expecting to wait upto half an hour for the table, it was ready for us. The food is delicious. With a range ont he menu and a specials board to choose from. My husband, although it was no longer early bird, ordered from the early bird menu and they were also happy to accommodate. Our party of 4 tried: chicken pate, wild board pate, duck salad and the bruschetta for starters and were all great. We then had beef medallions, pork loin and salmon main courses - again all excellent and none of us needed to order any side dishes. In fact I had too much on the plate and could not finish it all. We went for the sauvingnon blanc and was so good we had to have a second bottle. The only downside was the table was on an angle so we all vowed not to spill our peas on the table. I didn't score excellent because the location of the table - it sits in a fireplace - there was a gas heater in the fireplace that was far too close and it was at an angle - not the most comfortable set up. Yes we will go again - when we all save up - the cost for 4 with starters and main courses, 2 bottles of wine came to just over £150.

“Beautiful food, wonderful staff, will bd returning asap!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

My first visit to the cowshed and can't wait to go back. It's certainly not cheap, our bill for 3 was £160, but worth every penny. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, making for a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, and the food was divine! We had different starters, all gorgeous, and the cod from the specials menu, on recommendation from our waiter. It was a plump, juicy, beautifully cooked fillet, and the flavours were divine. Dessert was equally good. Compliments to the talented chefs, we will be returning asap! x

“GRUMPY STAFF”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We went to the Cow Shed for my son's birthday. Although the food was very good (if a little pricey) the staff were positively miserable! It was almost as if they didn't want to be there and struggled to raise a smile. The meal came in a timely manner but staff were not attentive and we had to constantly ask to be served more drinks etc. When we left, although four of the staff were stood chatting, not one of them said 'goodbye' or 'thank you for coming'. Food gets a 4, staff atticude gets a 1.

“Lunch at the cowshed”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Visited Wakefield to see The Hepworth Gallery and booked lunch at The Cow Shed for my wife and I. Far from the name it suggests the restaurant turned out to be clean , modern and welcoming. We chose from the lunch menu which was reasonably priced and varied although we were both tempted to try the steak. The service was efficient and friendly and our meal and drinks arrived quite promptly. The steaks were both tender and delicious and came with perfectly cooked chunky chips. The creme brulee which completed our meal was the best we have ever tasted!
We will definitely return next time we are in the area.
