“The best restaurant in Wakefield”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

Well the best tip to get a table here is to get organised and book early. It's so popular and stylish compared to anything else in Wakefield you have to book 3-4 weeks in advance for a Friday or Saturday night. It's a very grown-up atmosphere for couples who like great fresh quality gourmet bistro food. The emphasis is on taste, the dishes are obviously devised by chefs who really know about flavours and textures, with no overwhelming portion sizes - so you can fit it that all important dessert. The wines are well-chosen and priced realistically for quality. The staff were very friendly and professional in dealing with our menu questions and choices.

“Excellent”
Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

We went with friends who were from Newcastle. We arrived early, but were seated almost immediately by a very pleasant young lady, who gave us our menus and said she would be back shortly for our drinks order. Our friends were going to order an expensive Chardonnay, but the young lady said the house white was a Chardonnay , so they tried that and said it was nice.we all had bruschetta , which was nice, my husband and my friends hubby had steak, both cooked exactly how they wanted, my friend had pork which she said was very nice and I had the roast cod loin from the specials board, it was divine. The desserts were very nice as well. Would recommend to anyone, our friends said that they had really enjoyed the food. All the plates were cleared, which I think says it all really.

“If you think its good, you've never been anywhere that IS good!!!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

The Cow shed is a nice looking and quirky little Restaurant, and since we Live in Leeds, and we heading to Wakefields' newest Nightclub, we gave it a whirl early doors. Claustrophobia is the first thing that comes to mind, in-fact, nowhere to have a pre-dinner drink, and were shown straight to the table. Menu was quite limited, but understandable in a 4foot quare kitchen open plan kitchen area. We all ordered a drink, but there needs to be some serious drinks TRAINING here, as, tonics etc. are all pre-poured in, no lemon/lime, one chunk of ice.......no stirrer, NOT that good to be honest, and NOT that cheap when you get the bill. But, hey ho, this is what you get with something-teen waiters and waitresses, who, when we asked is there was any Courvoissier cognac looked at us gone out!! 3 starters were good, but the fresh bread was last nights toasted ciabatta, we did not want toast and oil, we wanted soft bread and butter!!! As mentioned, starters were OK, apart from the the leak and cheese tart came in a pre-purchased pastry base, and was absolutely tasteless and runny. For the price of the fillets, there should be more than a few frozen chips and salad, and my 2 friends Pork was a sweet infusion of sicklyness, as were all the extra veg orders (at extra cost) as they were all coated, in a honey based butter. Yuk. The steaks were OK, but not mind-blowing after eating at places like Croucho in Leeds. Sweets were all quite nice. In summary, it's certainly "big City" prices, and not quite sure how they manage to "supposedly" pack it out, because if this is the best Wakefield has to offer, I dread to think what the worst is!!! My advice, give it a whirl and see if I criticism is over-boardl!!! I don't think so. When you are paying a fair price, you want it right!!!

“A great meal, great service and value.”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Book early, we got the very last 1800 table on a Saturday several days before...

It is really good. We had the early bird menu, great value, rump steak was truly great, service attentive and very responsive. We only had 45 minutes before catching a train, and they pulled out all the stops to make sure we had the chance to enjoy dessert. yum.

Lovely ambience in the upstairs room. Would def go again....

“Another delicious meal”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Another enjoyable meal, our favourite restaurant. The fillet steak is a must, delicious. We always say we will try something different but end up ordering the fillet steak and sticky toffee pudding. (Can't resist). Would highly recommend after many visits, with ref to other reviews - there is plenty of choice and the menu rarely changes but why change something that works, the food is always piping hot, fresh and tasty and served with a smile. Nothing is too much trouble. We look forward to our return for New Years Eve 2012!!
