Reviewed November 30, 2013

I had to book into a hotel/motel in a hurry. Last minute because of unforeseen circumstances. When I booked here I thought, r well it's last minute, truckers motel but didn't have a choice. What a surprise!!! The room was lovely. Very clean, and the decor a cut above.. Plus really warm and cosey. The food is great, lots for your money and freshly made and that's 24/7. The staff are also really nice, nothing to much trouble. And all this for £35! Less if you don't care for en-suit. And included a full English breakfast! I've stayed in many hotels and B/B's, totally beats B/B's hands down and a lot of hotels that I have stayed in at 3/4 times the price! Will I stay here again? You bet I will.

Although you don't get a "reception", you do get a friendly staff behind the counter who take your details and show you your room. You also you get is a clean comfortable room with all the facilities well maintained. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the food is simple, well cooked and plentiful (and available 24hrs a day). So as the title says it is great value for money.

This place initially gives a poor impression however it is a secret gem. Locals gasped when we were staying here but it is no greasy spoon.
On arrival you go to the cafe counter as there is no reception and the bubbly, friendly staff take your details and take you to the room. The room was extremely clean and well presented for a budget motel. The quilt cover was well washed but it was fresh and obviously clean. The shower cubical was small but perfectly formed and had lots of lovely toiletries available. The tea and coffee was plentiful and when we asked for extra milk it was given with a lovely smile.
This place will never be the Ritz but it is friendly and nice. Breakfast was fantastic. A lovely, full fry up, English breakfast, lashings of tea and orange juice all served with a smile in a separate room from the busy cafe.
We will be back.

This motel does not have any reception as such, to check-in to the motel part of the business you will need to see the girls behind the counter in the cafe. This wasn’t a problem for us as we knew it from previous reviewers – thanks for that!!

The rooms are very small but serve the purpose well enough, it’s not the sort of place you go to spend too much time in the room anyway. There was a small TV, brew kit and biscuits in the room so it was comfortable enough. The room was clean enough but I wouldn’t call it spotless like some others have, there were tea splashes on the wall where people had tried to put their t-bags in the bin, and various other minor parts that had been missed. My only problem with the room was the size of the shower cubicle, there was no shelf for the shower gel so it had to go on the floor, but when you close the cubicle door it's too tight for you to be able to bend over to pick it up - and I'm not that fat!!

By far the best part of the stay was the breakfast, it’s your typical greasy spoon type transport cafe with one of the best full English breakfasts I’ve ever had. The cafe itself was always full (testament itself to the popularity of the place) but there is a separate room for residents where you will be served at the table as expected, and the girls are very helpful and polite. You’ll be offered more food than the average person could eat and the quality of it is superb – again the best part of the stay.

It’s also worth a stay so you can read the visitors book, one particular comment had the wife and I laughing for days – it’s not for me to repeat it in this forum but I will say it was a sort of compliment to one of the cleaners!!!

Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Called in at Redbeck tonight, we have been going for 20 years. I had a chicken salad and my husband had a bacon and egg sandwich. The food is excellent, and generous portions. We'll keep returning - anytime day or night you can count on Redbeck!

Great value for money Motel/transport cafe
Not your typical fine dining establishment, and nor does it claim to be! It's great value for money food, good place to go after a night on the town! Very friendly staff.
