Owner description: For over 1000 years, people have been gathering in this holy place to offer their prayers and praise to Almighty God. As they still do every day. It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm.

Wakefield Cathedral is not an ancient monument to be treated with pious gentleness like some (York Minster, Lincoln Cathedral etc). Wakefield is an everyday church to be used by everyone at anytime. the church has some Norman bits but for the most part it is a relatively modern building. the diosese was formed from the diosese of Ripon in 1884. the first Bishop was Walsham Howe.the Treacy Hall next door has a very good tea room serving home-made lunches and light refreshments. the cathedral is bang smack in the city centre pedestrian precinct with the Ridings shopping Centre 50 yards away and the new Trinity Walk shopping 2 minutes away.

Recent refurbishment has made it a pleasure to visit the cathedral for concerts or worship - look out for the maze, the new pupil and holy table. Light and warm - fit for the 21st century!

I took my kids last week to town center and we visited the cathedral. It was a very different experience for them. they looked everywhere asked about all those people there. we talked about all that work of art and then they sat quietly for a few minutes to to think which was not an easy task for a 5 and a 7 year old at the end they lit two candles.

Nice cathedral like going here to light candles and even tried the meals in the little cafe they have at the side meals are cheap and big ish. It's hard getting into the place as either the flat entry's are blocked up or others down steps so not disabled friendly and due to that don't go in same so it's a shame they always seem to be doing work outside of it as well which also restricts entering but entry is free as I know a lot charge

There used to be lovely flower arrangements in this Cathedral, what's happened to them all!? Maybe the flower arrangers got fed up of having to provide free flowers as there is no flower fund I've been told, arrangers usually provide their own.

It really is about time you people got this sorted!
