I had the steak (which was cooked much better than a recent experience at a so-called great restaurant in Aycliffe Village and considerably cheaper) with onion rings and chips.

Wine well priced and good - you can't go wrong with the food for the price if you're on a budget. Service is always fab with friendly staff who are happy to help.

Visited with my wife and our nieces and nephew last night. Not sure how long the place has been there but the staff were very friendly and seemed very switched on. Could not belive how quick the food came. It was to be fair what you might expect from a chain but having said that nothing wrong with it. The two meals for one did nothing for me but I think they were priced accordingly. The presentation needed looking at but that would be my only comment . The table staff were great as was the bar people who were friendly especially the lad who loved watches. Well done everyone

it a pub chain that serves perfectly acceptable food at a price to suit all.
Deals of the day exist, as do Steak nights, curry might etc etc.
Clean, fair service and reasonable pricing

We had Christmas Dinner here yesterday and what a fab meal we had. From entering the pub to leaving every thing was very spot on. The greeting cheery and friendly. Service was first class and the meals from starters to coffees where very very nice.
We where a party of five adults and every one was of the same opinion.
We had three different starters, two main courses with enough vegetables to feed an army then two different sweets and nothing left on any plate.
The only negative was we all said we where giving too much veg as we all felt guilty about it going back.
One lovely Christmas Day and would not hesitate to book again for next year.

I've been going to this pub for a few years. The location is excellent on the outskirts of Darlington and the pub has a good ambience about it which makes it a great place to chill and have a beer. They often have about 3 decent hand pulled ales available which is a bonus.
I totally agree with other reviewers that the kitchen needs ripping out, destroy the huge freezers, microwaves and get a proper chef in with proper food.
Almost all food served is basic microwave garbage. OK there's obviously a market for this cheap rubbish but in a climate where thousands of people are out of work surely it would make sense to employ a decent chef, charge a little more and give the punters the food they want.
If the food quality improved here the pub would be a gold mine.
I took my wife and 2 girls for a meal recently opting for the steaks and a chicken dinner for the kids.
The chicken dinner consisted of some microwave chicken breast, aunt bessie yorkshire pudding, luke warm frozen peas and some luke warm microwavable potato.
The steaks were cooked ok but the quality was poor and hardly tasted of anything. The steaks came with some watery sauce, frozen onion rings and oven chips.
The George and Dragon in Heighington (10 min drive away) do a steak night on a Wednesday which puts the Heiffer to shame. Chargirlled steaks, homemade chips and beer battered onion rings!
This day and age pubs shouldn't be serving this garbage. I'm sure when people train to become chefs they aren't coached for 12 months on how to pearce a top seven times, turn a nob and press start!
It's a shame as for somewhere to go for a drink I'd give this place a 5 star as the pub layout and the beers are excellent but for food it gets a generous 2!
