“Just very very average”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

Bought this as a two night groupon to take somebody away as a gift. Chosen because ad looked great and it said it had pool/gym/spa etc, free parking, free wifi, meals and wine etc.
First impressions were good, driveway great, reception great, room just average, both nights they quibbled the deal we were on and although we stood our ground, it felt embarrassing. Breakfast very, limited (again this is only in my opinion), yes we were on a deal but it was the same for people who were not. Maybe im just being picky but if you see my other reviews I give praise and credit where its deserved. Full breakfast, no poached eggs only fried, pink sausages, no mushrooms, no hash browns, no bagels, no bread rolls, no crumpets, in fact none of the extras that you would normally have at a hotel of this standard. Basic low cost low frills budget cereal, one type of juice as the sole choice, vending machine for tea and coffee (ours was disgusting). Think ive rambled on about breakfast enough but you get the idea. On the second evening both of the tables next to ours were both complaining, one sent food back and the other had been waiting 45 mins. Our food of an evening was quite good but menu is quite limited for choice.
Pool is very small and old, gym (weights area), bit dated but functional, cardio area had all you needed but some were out of order. Now to most this wouldn't have been an issue but out of nine places we were looking at staying this one was pushing its gym/spa facilities. But they are there and are useable as long as you don't expect a lot.
Wifi was a voucher you collect at reception, you need one for each device something to note if your travelling on business and if you are there more than one night you need to go down next day for new ones. Only mentioning this as lift to our floor was out of order so the up down and being a long way from reception when you've just driven for 2 hours was a pain.
But on the whole both my partner and I said we wouldn't stay there again and both said it came across as jaded, tired and breakfast a big let down. Sorry Blackwell Grange but just an honest opinion.
Partner wishes to add, there were plenty of friendly smiling polite staff and this was a positive.
Many of the things we would have changed were nothing to do with the day to day staff.
Booking was very hard and we were led a merry dance for 3 days

Room Tip: We seemed to be a long long way from reception or restaurant, this could be a problem for less mobil...

Realy enjoyed our stay here, nice food ,enjoyed the swimming pool, the hotel location is ideal we walked in to darlinton and walked round south park, only fault we had was that we got no sleep the walls between the rooms are so thin you could hear every word the person in the next room were sayingthis spoiled what could have been a realynice stay,

Stayed here with 15 other lady golfers. We had 2 rounds of golf, dinner, bed and breakfast. We had an excellent deal which was well worth the money. Our evening meal and breakfast were excellent, little things like a hot plate, very attentive staff, excellent service and good choice of food. Drink prices were very reasonable as well. The hotel itself is well presented with lots of choice in where to sit and have a drink or cuppa etc. The bedrooms on the first floor where we stayed were lovely and clean and a reasonable size but could do with a little updating. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought it was well worth the money.

stayed one night on business . room was OK certainly not the worst I have stayed in.. it was average.
the room seemed a fair distance from the the main hotel hub. There are nice quiet seating areas in the hotel and the bar area was quite nice , typically expensive.
breakfast wasn't great , tired food , flopped on trays .. there was a good variety of cereals and cold but nothing with a wow factor.
would i recommend , i am not sure .. would i stay again not sure ,i believe there are probably other hotels in the area that offer more for the price .. i wouldn't black mark this hotel at all. i just believe I've stayed in better for the money. i
paid more for one night than many people have paid for a groupon deal.
Lovely staff . friendly and helpful.

Well what can I say more like a endurance test than weekend break. Three room changes in 12 hours!!! First room horrendous , in filthy dirty corridor , second room brown water to wash in!!
Third room lovely . I would like to say reception staff great , restaurant staff great, but the biggest star has to go to the chefs and kitchen staff, what great food they produce for a very reasonable price, well done to you all. . The staff in the spar do there best and are very welcoming . This hotel would be a little gem if a little updating was carried out, I would return if some of the problems were sorted out, I would eat there anytime .
