Description: Located on the tip of Sandbanks Peninsula, you couldn't dine closer to the water. With glorious views across to Studland Bay and Old Harry, the Haven Hotel is renowned for its locally acclaimed restaurant, The Point Restaurant. Recognised for excellent food in a fine dining experience, The Point Restaurant has been awarded with two prestigious AA Rosettes. Helmed by Head Chef Jason Hornbuckle, who wherever possible tries to use local and sustainable ingredients. With a passion for reducing the 'nautical miles' of seafood, from source to plate. With the sun setting over Shell Bay, there's an ambient evening feeling in The Point Restaurant. To make the most out of Dorset's seasonal produce, Head Chef Jason changes his extended table d'hote and prix fixe menus daily, offering tasty variety every time you dine. To compliment the cuisine at The Point Restaurant, we have developed an extensive list of fine wines.

We stayed for one night in the hotel & had a really excellent meal - good range of choices from the fixed price menu - my lamb & Suzi's beef main courses were fantastic. Would be a 5 but the service was a bit haphazard - the young waitress got the wine order wrong, we were brought the wrong main courses (and the manageress wasn't very friendly). Having said that, we'd recommend it - particularly for lunch or summer dinner when you can see the view.

Normally I steer clear of four star hotels' restaurants as they are there to offer a service to its residents. I was on this occasion wrong. On arrival we went to the bar which was well stocked and the hotel was extremely busy with a wedding and a Lodge dinner Dance. The public areas of the hotel look somewhat dated and could do with a refurb. There were two light bulbs out on the chandelier in the bar and I bet to this date haven't been replaced! The food was very very good and very well priced. All in all, it's a restaurant I would recommend. Duty Managers, light bulbs!!!!!

I visited the Haven recently for food and to meet old friends. Previous visits during the past two or three years have been thoroughly enjoyable and we all came away having had a fantastic time. Unfortunately this recent visit was a completely different experience and we may as well have been at a different hotel. It was awful. We waited ages for food and the staff looked decidedly dejected and overworked and it didnt feel like the same relaxing, happy place. There didnt seem to be enough staff for the level of business, and when we chatted to one of them, they told us there had been some major changes to the business and that there are now no managers at any of the hotels in the group! Surely this is madness at the busiest time of the year?
When we stayed at the Haven last year the manager checked us in and from that moment on whenever he saw us he addressed us by our name and asked if he could get us anything. During our stay we saw him carrying guest's bags, dinner trays, pouring drinks when it was busy and chatting to guests. He was quite the host and probably the greatest asset to the hotel, not forgetting his well motivated and happy team. This time around, there was none of that, not even so much as a smile from the staff. The atmosphere has changed. The morale had changed. The attitude towards the customer appears to have changed. One thing that is still the same is the food which was very good despite the long wait!
Unfortunately even the view didnt make up for the long wait for food. We wont be returning to the Haven which is a shame, we will let our money do the talking and spend it elsewhere.

If you want a sea view and great food, look no further. The terrace is great for drinks and a place to view all the boats as they enter Poole Harbour.
The evening menus are varied and include a vegetarian option.

Two members of our party were seduced by the lunch offer of poached salmon, strawberries and cream with a 125ml glass of sauvignon blanc for £20. Since this was a birthday luncheon treat for an 89 yr old we thought this would suit well. Generally, it did...however, when 4 smallish strawbs cut in half and elegantly placed on a large rectangular plate arrived with a few 'quenelles' of cream (made with small teaspoons!) even our 89 yr old looked surpised.
Somehow, when the bill arrived, they had also added on £15 for these two desserts to the set price..The bill was revised immediately when we pointed this out however, it does highlight the importance of carefully checking your bill when it arrives.
The other two members of our party selected items off the 'A la carte' menu and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the fact that their joint bill came to very little more than for those who had the 'offer'. (Their portions were generally more substantial too.) We agree in the main with the review below -however, we were left waiting for several minutes at the restaurant reception desk and agree with other reviews that the service, whilst friendly, needs to be more professional -with better direction/training from management.
