Owner description: Owned by the National Trust, Brownsea Island is dramatically located in Poole Harbour, with spectacular views across to the Purbeck Hills. Thriving natural habitats - including woodland, heathland and a lagoon - create a unique haven for wildlife, such as the rare red squirrel and a wide variety of birds, including dunlin, kingfishers, common and sandwich terns and oystercatchers. The Outdoor Centre invites you to come and follow in the footsteps of Lord Baden-Powell and the very first Scouts who camped here in 1907. Scout and Guide Groups can camp and get stuck in with activities such as archery and low ropes and we also offer Eco Adventure Camping as an opportunity for the general public to come and experience the great outdoors. The perfect day's adventure - this island wildlife sanctuary is easy to get to but feels like another world from the moment you step ashore.

We went here as a party of 7 and had a great day out. The staff were really helpful all over the island and we spent a whole day walking, in the rain! It didnt spoil the beautiful views and we saw so much wildlife. The kids had bags to collect shells on the beach and fir cones in the woods. We saw peacocks, red squirrels and deer, to name a few! There were a few activities in the marquee for children. We took a picnic, then had cake in the cafe before getting the ferry back. Lovely coffee and cake. We will be going back to enjoy it in the sunshine!
TIPS-take a picnic, rug and plenty of drinks, take a towel for the kids to paddle, take a bag for them to collect 'treasure', and take plasters and 'waspeze' for stings. You are along way from anywhere if you need any of these things with small children!

Beautiful boat trip and walk around the stunning and unspoilt island. Cafe and shop good but don't sit outside with food near the harbour unless you want to be mollested by the peacocks!

The short jouney across by ferry was pleasent and informative,on the island were nice walks (or driven round by golf buggy if you can't walk far) lots of wildlife (sea birds, peacocks, golden pheasants, watch out for lizards), and all round pleasent vistas

The island is a beautiful quiet tranquil place to visit, the ferry over adds to the experience. Walked the woodland and coastal trails.

We took a boat ride there for 9.5 return. The return journey is really a mini crusie around the back of Pool harbour and this was fun in itself. Lots of beautiful yachts and unspolit coast to view.
Brownsea is a tranquil havene from the world. No background of traffic noise just total peace. The view from the west side cliffs is an uninterrupted panaroma from Sandbanks accross Shell bay to the old Harry rocks and has to be seen to be believed.
The tranquility clearly rubs off on everyone who sets foot on the island, it just seems to make people happy, relaxed and friendly.
The only downside was I never saw a red squirrel(and I really tried to find one!).
