“Lovely cafe”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Possibly in the last place you would expect it, a working boat yard, South Deep is a fab café with a great menu and fab views. The menu has a good selection, the food was tasty and the service was good. A lovely place to eat on a summers day.

“Beautiful setting and interesting menu”
Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

South Deep is hidden away in a boatyard at Whitecliff. Despite this it is always busy. The garden slopes down to the sea where the reeds conceal crocodiles (according to the signs!) The menu is interesting, there's plenty for seafood lovers and the lobster platter is delicious and good value for money. It would have been better if tools had been provided for cracking the claws and a finger bowl for washing fishy fingers.

“Great, hidden place for lunch!”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Tucked away down a residential road and just inside a boatyard this restaurant/café is a real find.
There menu is quite extensive in light lunch terms and the choices range from lovely salads, grills, baguettes, panini etc.
Most of the seating is on the decking under an huge sun umbrella. There is also another bar area down on the lawn which looks nice if you just need a drink or coffee. The views are quite interesting - Poole harbour in the distance, the bullrushes and reeds next to the restaurant and the boatyard with all manner of interesting boats and yachts. The boatyard seems to be smartening itself up a bit and new 'Hamptons' style painted wooden buildings have been built and now house boat related businesses.

We both chose the fresh crab with lime mayonnaise and it was divine. We the had the Nougat dessert and an ice cream dessert which were refreshing. The service is very courteous and prompt. The place was heaving and we saw none of the attitude mentioned by previous reviewers - all was simply lovely.

My one negative comment is that if you are not drinking wine and do not like anything fizzy there is only a choice of sweet fruit juices and water. In this day and age of 'NO drink and drive' it is really a poor show. Where are all the STILL elderflowers or similar drinks. Frjuit juice or water is simply NOT an option.

“Would not return”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

We visited this cafè this morning and the owner/man in charge was incredibly rude!

We ordered our breakfast and drinks and all was fine... However after our meals I asked for a glass of water and 10 mins later it still had not turned up. I then prompted the same waitress and she admitted she had forgotten this so went to get me a glass.

When the same waitress to clear the table we ordered another full breakfast at 11.18 (orders for breakfast stop at 11.30). She didn't clear the table and went away. 25 mins later we asked a different waitress where our order was... A look of fear crossed her face.

2 mins later the owner/ man in charge came and accused us of lying about our food order as it was not on the computer system... And that the waitress we had ordered with did not exist!! He then stormed off to find her.. Unsurprisingly he found the waitress and she denied and knowledge of our order! Instead of politely offering an alternative he rudely objected that we had made the order. He really needs to work on his customer service skills!!!

Shame as it is in a lovely location.

“Good food , excellent location - terrible service”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Decent food when it arrives - although be prepared to have to remind the waiting staff ( 2 attempts to order a coffee - waitress forgot both times), an apology would have made it ok, but they denied we had even ordered.
