Description: To compliment its panoramic view of Poole Harbour, we've developed two AA Rosette awarded cuisine and one of the finest wine cellars in the area. When the weather's welcoming, bask in the sunshine with a glass of champagne or light lunch on the terrace overlooking the magical harbour islands. As the sun disappears behind Brownsea Island, Harbar Bistro's sophisticated surroundings provide an intimate setting to dine. Our Head Chef, Loic Gratadoux and his team are dedicated to fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. Inventing a daily changing a la carte menu, designed around the area's fine produce. Matching the right wine to a dish enhances the culinary experience, that's why we take grapes so seriously. Head Sommelier Charles Van Wyk takes pride in personally ensuring that the cellar is stocked with a worldly collection of vintages. You'll stumble across varieties that are rarely seen outside their own local markets. And because we're lovers of local, there is pick of Dorset wines.

We had a special evening planned with work colleagues and chose this beautiful location for a meal. The views across the water are wonderful. The boss had pre ordered us some champers. Shame it was served to the wrong table (colleagues from a different dept - they were delighted!) and we waited 30 plus minutes for a drink. This was served by a jolly gentleman who was most apologetic and the smiliest person of the evening - he knows who he is! It seemed everything we asked for was met with a very quick 'no' until we challenged when we got what we asked for or a suitable explanation - can we have dauphinois with our Chateaubriand? Can we have the blind down etc. Such a shame, more (happier) staff needed, the place was busy. Good job the food and view was amazing.

I don't know how they train the people who work there, but aside from one bar man they were .. Well just plain rude. We went into the restaurant and told by the bar staff to talk to the restaurant staff, who in turn told us they were full ( seemed strange because besides a group who we're leaving we were the only people there). Anyway as we were leaving the bar man said that they did have tables and told us to talk to the restaurant manager, this I tried to do, but my 'excuse me' was met by an upraised hand as he walked away. The bar man apologised for the rudeness, but did nothing, so we went to reception to complain, but although the receptionist said things like 'how terrible' it was plainly obvious this was nothing more than lip service. I hate to give negative reviews, and I do so, in the hope that this will help the management there realise they have problems that need to be resolved.

With, as it turned out, a bottle of one of the least expensive wines on the menu (French Viognier) our 3-course a la carte meal nevertheless came to £130 for two including tip. Not perhaps London prices but not everyday prices either. But sitting outside the views were extraordinary over Poole harbour and the service impeccable. Our waitress (Jessica), the sommelier (Charles), and the night manager (Alex) were professional, attentive, knowledgeable and all had that rare to find "can-do" attitude. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. So, overall the whole experience was excellent. I shall definitely go back.

Views are superb over Poole Harbour - especially on a sunny day.
Lunch menu is quite good - lovely runny eggs.
Not so keen on the bar menu - the burgers are ok.

Limited dinner menu, too expensive (scallops £12.50 for 2, yes 2 and lobster £59) no fresh fish counter as advertised and a rather unpleasant restaurant manager. Don't waste your time or money, there are better places to eat in the area who are grateful for your custom.
