“Dull and dreary”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Although the staff were very friendly and attentive it could not compensate for the dull, tired and dreary look of this hotel. Room, overlooking the quay, was small but clean with large bed although the pillows were lumpy. My impression was it needed a complete overhaul to bring it into the 21st century. Its only saving grace is that its near the pubs and restaurants on the quay so not far to walk back after a night out. Stayed on a 35% off deal but would not pay full price

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the quay - the view to the rear is a shabby car park

Dear Terry

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I'm pleased that you found that the staff were very friendly and the Hotel to be clean. We are in the process of updating the Hotel as part of a planned maintenance programme which is seeing the rooms look brighter and fresher. You are completely right in saying that our location is spot on - right on the quay close to the bars and restaurants as well as Poole High Street!

Kind regards

Basic room but wholly functional if you just need somewhere to sleep at night. The stay was made exceptional by the extremely friendly staff and a very impressive breakfast. Fresh and apparently made from quality ingredients.

Stayed here on a Sat night, 50% off Thistle deal. Got room for £61 (2 adults & 1 Child), including free breakfast. Room had view of Poole quay and although bit basic and little bit tired, for the money it was fine.
Check in was good - lovely receptionist, smily and booked us in no problem. Car parking was £5, right behind hotel.
Room had double bed and good sofa bed for child. Big wall mounted flat-screen TV, tea & coffee making stuff, iron, bathrobes etc. Water in room, some choccies too. Bath handle silver coating was badly chipped but shower over bath good, fresh fluffy towels.
Wall mounted old-style dimplex electric heater - did a job but bit fiddly/bit smelly.
Bed average, pillows a bit tired but ok, curtains good to keep out light. No sound issues from quay.
Breakfast very good, table service on main plate, buffet for cereals/toast/juice. My ommelette was bang-on.
All in all, good for £61 - but would have been dissapointed if paid £80+ due to tiredness features in room and very average bed/bedding.

Room Tip: Try and get room with view of quay.

All staff very friendly throught our stay. Good location right on the quay and close to many pubs, bars and resturants.
Rooms are basic and could do with a bit of an upgrade. Spare blanket in the wardrobe had an odd smell to it.
We did not intend to eat in the hotel resturant which was a good job as it was a bit pricey.
The car park at the back of the hotel was discounted for hotel guests however this was not displayed in the car park and we were only made aware once we had parked, paid and checked in. (Not a massive problem but we all like to save money where possible)
Overall a nice hotel, basic but good value for money and would definately stay here again.

I am really pleased that you found all the staff very friendly - it is something that we try to do to make sure that all of our guests are looked after. We are in the process of updating the Hotel through planned improvements so you will be able to see a refreshed Hotel going forward. I'm really sorry to hear that there was a problem with your blanket and have asked Wendy, our Head Housekeeper to check that all the rooms are fine.

Thanks for taking the time to provide a comment and I hope we can welcome you back in the near future.

Kind regards

This hotel has its pro's and cons. Pro's first, the location is great, right on the quay in Poole harbour so its great for sightseeing and harbour boat trips. The staff were really good, attentive and very helpful all round.
Cons, the decor of our room was getting a little jaded and could do with sprucing up. The beds (twin room) were hard, and I mean hard but I didn't mind that. The food on the hotel menu I thought was expensive but since we were not paying for our food that evening ???. The bar prices were expensive, £4-50 for a single shot of Chivas Regal was a bit too much. We were obliged to pay for overnight parking and at £5 that was not a happy outgoing. Hotel residents should NOT have to pay for parking. The charge for breakfast was £10 pp. a nice selection well presented and served but not good value.
All in all a professionally run establishment that could make itself more attractive by revising some of its charges.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms may be better than ours was, which was on the ground floor at the rear , but we only...

Dear Donuttaster

I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall and in particular enjoyed great service from the team. We do carry out regular price checks with local competitor Hotels with regards to Food and Beverage prices to ensure that our prices are comparable - including that of the carpark where overnight guests get 50% discount from the normal price. In the Harbour view restaurant we do actually have a market menu which is often chosen by guests as a set-menu.

Thank you for your feedback and I hope we can welcome you back in the near future.

We stayed at this property on 31st night. I am pleased to say that it was a wonderful stay. The staffs were really friendly and very helpful. I believe the operation manager was at reception that did our check in, though he was new to the group still he was really helpful and very pleasant to talk. We went for New Year eve party in Rest/Bar which was great as well. The Bar man was handling the pressure of all drunk people in a best possible manner at the same time he was providing a very quick and efficient service. Though the rooms were not like a modern city hotel but still I won’t be complaining about it as i believe every hotel has its own character and i had a proper good night sleep.

Room Tip: Please go for sea view room !!!

I have stayed here a couple of times for work and it is an ideal location for me for work.Yes, it is a bit tired and old and could do with a face lift, however, the parking is great, the restaurant and bar staff really friendly and make a person travelling on their own feel welcome and safe. I will definately use again.
