Owner description: Remembering past sacrifice to inspire future generations. Many brave and selfless RNLI volunteers are remembered proudly in their local communities. However, the RNLI memorial sculpture in Poole is the only place where each and every one of them is named together. The RNLI hopes that future generations of lifeboat crew, lifeguards, supporters and fundraisers will find it a source of inspiration. Ultimately, the memorial reminds us all that there are still people who volunteer to carry out selfless acts of heroism to help others - we will always remember their sacrifice.

It's quite a sad sculpture because the name of every RNLI rescuer that has been lost at sea. It is a lovely statue and quite modern too. It is most certainly not a waste of money.

Amazing sculpture to remember all those brave volunteers. It is a stunning yet in many ways simple piece of art capturing all the dangers and emotions of the sea. Go to see it you will be amazed. Also visit the RNLI buildings for a coffee and a shop (raising funds) which has many unusual and attractive gifts.

It surprises me that this small piece of metalwork is on here to be rated. The RNLI buildings that surround it at least serve a function, however this doesn't.

Shiny and modern. Cleverly evocative of man reaching and straining to rescue his fellow man. Quite emotionally engaging.
When you've looked and enjoyed the sculpture, you're only a few steps from another fantastic venue - the RNLI College - great for a drink at the bar, a coffee or a fine meal. They also do tours of the whole facility, which my husband said was really interesting. (See my review of the hotel/restaurant part).

The RNLI College next to the memorial sculpture is interesting and educational, with a nice shop with official RNLI merchandise.
