Having visited hotel de vin Poole on several occasions,I thought it reasonable value for money. However standards have slipped. This is just not worth £25 a head for a Sunday lunch/buffet. Pre lunch buffet vastly reduced from when Sunday lunch was £20 a head. Once again, when roast beef asked for rare presented well done. Why are roast potatoes & veg presented mixed up in the same bowl. Commented on, on our last visit. Steak frite, poor quality. Yorkshire puddings poor. Your staff are lovely, took all comments on board & reduced the food bill. However, this comes from the top, support your staff, give them a product they can be proud to serve.

Very nice restaurant, lively ambience for a winters evening. The service was excellent and good attention to detail. However, I was slightly disappointed by the food. Would have been nice to have a slightly bigger selection or a specials board. Overall very good .

Vivien and I decided to break with tradition and head off to Poole for a Christmas away. We were in for a very pleasant surprise.... When we finally arrived after four hours, through floods and terrible traffic we found a very welcoming reception, lovely bar and restaurant with lots of nooks and crannies, sofas, armchairs, warmth and charm. We were very impressed with our room a huge bed Egyptian cotton superb bathroom with walk in shower and a roll top bath. Our only complaint with the whole of our stay was the very dim lighting however the really helpful assistant manager found us a spare standard lamp and I rather craftily removed a couple of lampshades!

The bar is very well furnished and stocked and if you are a drinks lover this is for you, with an amazing choice of wines, spirits, beers and cocktails and all the staff are very knowledgeable. The restaurant is very cosy and comfortable the chef really knows how to cook from amazing breakfasts to fabulous dinners we couldn't find fault. The restaurant manager Graham, Kristian the bar manager, Saskia the GM, Duncan duty manager and the two ladies who cleaned our room and supplied an extra heater all deserve gold stars for extra attention to detail. It's a new team so with these people to help the other members of staff. The Hotel Du Vin will be a major competitor for any hotels for miles around.

One footnote, a lot of comments appear about the price of drinks. Personally, and fed up of being taken for a ride elsewhere, the prices were much cheaper than London hotels and in general I never felt they were excessive.

A great hotel to choose if you are in this region.

We have enjoyed the weekday lunch menus in the past, so thought we would treat ourself to Sunday Brunch. (but were aware the veggie offer is usually disappointing with limited choice alternating between risotto or pasta ... can knock up something more exciting at home in 15 minutes!)

The 'lavish French Market Table' was boring and bog standard. Ok if you want to pile it high. Salmon, shell fish, salami all seemed basic quality. For vegetarians appalling, I left most of my plate. The mozzarella balls were dry and tasteless, the peppers were from a jar or tinned and just tasted of water, the apparently 'chargrilled' aubergines bore no resemblance to aubergine and were a nasty, horrid texture - appearing to be from a jar and put on a grill pan for a few seconds?, after one bite gave up on them. Probably the worst antipasto I have ever had.

My husband enjoyed his roast beef. The pumpkin and parmesan ravioli were ok, but presumably bought in? And as I keep the Waitrose version in the freezer as a standby at home, hardly tempted the tastebuds.

The accompanying potatoes seemed precooked and roasted or fried after for colour, disappointing and not nice. Vegetables a typical selection on a side dish, just ok.

The dessert, baked apple stuffed with dates, was a small green dull apple stuffed with something brown inside. 'Nul Points'. The creme brulee, not one of the best.

Cider at £6.50 a bottle each (+10% Service Charge) expensive and 'flat', maybe that's the style. Give me Aspalls any time.

The bill would have been acceptable for 'good food', but you really can't compare the quality with some of the good hotels in the New Forest. A great pity as Hotel du Vin, Poole, is otherwise a stylish hotel and we like to pop in when we wander round the harbour,
