“Lovely surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

Had dinner here- a little early we were served petit fours and wine whilst we waited for our table. Delicious. Awesome cheese soufflé followed by main and desert.
A very busy evening, we weren't rushed and ended with coffee and chocolates.
Very pleasant meal provided by thoughtful and helpful staff.

“An early, unforgettable Valentine's Evening to rave about!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

My partner arranged an early Valentine's, surprise meal here, as he knew that he would be away on business for Feb 14th. We have heard so many great reports about Isabel's and I was very excited that the taxi stopped outside here. Although it was Wednesday, the restaurant was still fairly full, with more guests arriving. (our table was booked for 7.00pm).
Our greeting was very friendly, with our coats taken from us and I was pleased to hear that we had a 'boothe', to give us more privacy (by the window). We were immediately served 6 petite canapes, while we chose the wine. I recommend the white Rioja! The menu is very varied, with great combinations of flavours/sauces - I was really spoilt for choice. There were many steak/fish/lamb/duck/pork/chicken/V meals, that I did take rather a while to choose. Finally, I opted for Wild Mushrooms in Cream in Puff Pastry, followed by Duck and fresh vegetables. My partner had the French Onion Soup, (recommend by the 1st two reviews that he read!) followed by Pork Stroganoff. The flavours were amazing and the food and plates were piping hot too. We did share a dessert - Steamed Ginger and Chilli sponge with a sauce.
The atmosphere reminded me of a 'French Boudoire!', or like 'Mrs T's, with dim lighting, red drapes, William Morris styled red patterned wallpaper and chandeliers - right up my street with that style! A fabulous surprise, for a romantic evening, with 5* food, service and ambience. I can't wait to my next visit here!

“Beautiful Food...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

As always, a special evening enjoyed in one of Dorset's best restaurants...lovely food, perfectly cooked in traditional, authentic surroundings of delicacy and warmth. The food was, typically, expertly presented, cooked and of course tasted divine. Only negative was the service. Hurried and rushed in manner from all colleagues working on this instance, taking away the feeling of being valued...one to watch please. Quality of care and service over covers and profit! Smashed glasses and abrupt service isn't appreciated in an establishment that serves such delight in its food.

“Consistently good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We have eaten at Isabel's for many years. It is very traditional, but consistently good, in terms of food, service and ambience. The wine list is excellent and reasonably priced.

Will always recommend this restaurant to any age group. They will enjoy
