“It always raises a question”

The Question Mark Sculpture

It raises many questions, why, it’s purpose, it’s structure, who designed it etc. The answers don’t interest me although I’m not adverse to it’s position as it certainly compliments the new university.
I find the allocation of any funds towards almost pointless “points of interest” worrying but there are probably much better people than me who understand the whys and the wherefore.

You don't have to be that old to spout about ( I remember when it was a car park around here ) It was back when all councils had plenty of our money and decided to invest it, making even more money only to lose it all in Iceland, about 5 million in the case of Ipswich borough council. At a 22 million cost back in 2007ish the uni was a good investment for the future of the town, but the £200.000 question mark sculpture was where they got all dizzy and lost their minds.
The arty farty types will say: ( because you have formed an opinion about the sculpture, therefore, it is true art and has evoked a reaction ) In my world it makes an ideal spot to place your cup of coffee so you can do your shoelaces up. It's not going to go down in history as a groundbreaking landmark in Ipswich and who knows it won't be there forever but come and see it and form your own opinion.

Often walk by this on the way to the waterfront, just outside the main UoS Waterfront building. Caused a fair level of debate when first put there (cost, mostly!), but now seems an accepted part of the scene.

There are several nice sculptures dotted around Ipswich. The recent pig sculptures were excellent. Not sure about this one though. Thought provoking it might be, but not pleasing on the eye for me
