I have been a customer of the Sonar bangla for more than 20 years and I still rate it as the best in town. No glitz but the food is first rate and the staff are superb. It is like eating at home without having to clear up the mess and the team have treated us like extended family. Our guests have always been treated well and have commented on the quality and taste of the food.

This place is a gem of a restaurant. Small but cosy. Waiter is pleasant and friendly. In my opinion Sonar Bengla is better than Dhaka, and probably the best indian restaurant in Ipswich. Fresh tasty food, decent portions and excellent value for money, especially their meal deals between Sunday and Thursdays. I have invited numerous friends to this place, including Indian friends, and they have all loved this place. I am a fussy eater with a big appetite and I would go as far as saying Sonar Bangla is one of the best restaurants in Ipswich.

Affectionately known as the ‘front room’ by my friends as it feels like you’re eating in someone’s house the Sonar Bangla is not much to look at, tucked behind the Regent between the tattoo parlor and the chip shop it's easy to miss. However; despite the lack of glitz and glamour this restaurant is a lovely place to eat, the service is good, with friendly, smiley waiters, the food delicious and the bill fabulously small … this possibly because you take your own alcohol (no corkage charges) although they do have soft drinks for sale.

All in all, give it a try it’s worth it :o)

Food excellent, service excellent, value for money excellent, decor could be a bit more updated. )Our take your own alcohol so it can be a very cheap night out. A lot of my friends go now as well. :-)

The only surprise on the menu at Sonar Bangla is the pricing, even the costliest chef's special is just 8.95. The taste and quality of ingredients make this place superb value, whether to eat in- it's "compact" inside, with an even tinier upstairs -or have delivered.
Even better value are various set menus where you select your mains to set accompaniments for under 20.00 for 2.
A recent favourite of ours has been lamb Achaari -garlic and ginger with pickles, melt in the mouth lamb.
Soft drinks available, bring your own beer/wine, no corkage charge.
An affordable treat to the tastebuds in these times.
