Description: This is a lovely Gastro Pub, the new owners took over in October 2009 and have fantastic plans. They only serve locally brewed Bitter and Lager plus a great wine list. Mike is a fantastic chef and the staff are always friendly, smiling and helpful. Lots of space for private parties or meetings. Daily fresh menu with local produce.

“Nice location, shame about the food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

Crowd of us went for dinner there, nice location, lovely old building, but food was very expensive, and was not really worth the money. Most things on the menu are about £14.00 and although they sound lovely, they are not really anything special. They use expensive ingredients and charge high prices but it is not worth it.

“Wow! Will definitely revisit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

From the food to the beer everything was absolutely delicious. Superb food at very reasonable prices. Got to say this is one of my favourite food havens to date. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the beers available and the timing with which the food was brought out was spot on. I will definitely revisit this pub. If I had to critique anything I would say the women's toilets could do with updating. Other than that if you want very tasty well presented food at surprisingly low prices this is the venue for you.

“Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

As it is in part of the old TolleMache brewery it has a lot of character to the building including an outdoor seating area that overlooks the Orwell river and another out the back that has fig trees and a few Indian runner ducks waddling around. The inside is made up of a few different seating areas and rooms. There is a dart board where you can ask for darts to play along with many board games for anyone to use.
I have only eaten here twice and both times the food was amazing but the price of the food is why I don't eat here more often. Usually I would go here for beers and they have a selection of real ale beers from local breweries that are all tasty but the Earl Soham Brewery Victoria Bitter is a lovely session beer.
The quizzes are great fun every week, and for only £1 each with some food at the interval it is good value. Also the music here has always been good and it is a shame there aren't more live music sets at this pub.
Overall this pub is easily one of the best in Ipswich.

“Disappointed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Went for lunch here, expecting to be blown away by the quality of food! Unfortunately was a complete let down. Although the food was adequate, there's pubs in the area you can buy better quality food for less money. The atmosphere seriously lacked, and although were enough the staff weren't particually friendly or chatty -something I personally think is important in a place like this. Not very child friendly, menu didnt cater to small kids at all. Service was also quite slow too. On the plus side has good amount of parking, nice location and outside grassed seating. But overall I wouldn't recommend.

“Full of character, and friendly characters”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Excellent food, both old favourites and interesting new things to try (marmite ice cream with upmarket hot cross bun), all with friendliness, charm, and at a remarkably reasonable price
