Description: This is a lovely Gastro Pub, the new owners took over in October 2009 and have fantastic plans. They only serve locally brewed Bitter and Lager plus a great wine list. Mike is a fantastic chef and the staff are always friendly, smiling and helpful. Lots of space for private parties or meetings. Daily fresh menu with local produce.

“Great pub with bags of history”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

We love the Brewery Tap, the welcome is always warm, and the building has charm and character.

They offer a wide range of good pub food, local beers, fantastic homemade pickle eggs (I particularly like the marmite flavour!) and other fab bar snacks.

Our only gripe is that it is normally really cold in there (not during the summer obv) despite the ope. Fire being lot in the main bar, I didn't take my coat off on Christmas Eve - and the woodburner hadnt been lit. The ladiesxloos are also a pretty grim prospect, freezing and smelling terribly of damp, not helped by the rather manky 1970s carpet in there (carpet in a loo, really?).

But don't let that put you off - overall it's a great venue for a summers afternoon beer, a fun quiz night (with free nibbles and fiendishly hard questions) and generally socialising with friends.

“Great pub currently serving some of the best food in Ipswich”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

We regularly visit the Brewery Tap and have done for the best part of the last year.

It's a fantastic place for a drink as they have a great range of real ales from Cliff Quay Brewery and others (including London's meantime brewery) plus a decent selection of wines. However it's also a fantastic place to eat and along with other town pubs The Greyhound and the Arboretum is serving up some of the best and most exciting food in Ipswich. For me, though, the attention to detail at TBP marks it as the best one of the three. An example is the home made touches from the picked eggs behind the bar to the sausage rolls and ketchup, all made on the premises. In addition, Mike has now bought a smoker and the maple and beetroot smoked salmon and smoked prawns that have been on the menu since have been amazing.

I've not yet been able to make one of the theme nights, from quizzes to pizza and live music but I hope to remedy that in the new year.

the only negatives I can provide are the out of the way location and the fact that the roast dinners run out far too soon!

“Worth hunting this place down”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

Went here new years eve for a meal and live music .Nice real coal fire, Great, meals ,excellent live band, beers very good and staff hard working. The pub is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth hunting down. Rreally can not find a fault with this place. Only wish more pubs were in this calibre.

“Fraud”
Reviewed November 30, 2011

Terrible place is a ex cobbold family house which should have been left as it has the ceilings torn down, plaster off walls to try and give that old look, fails big time. Very expensive food and drink with only a couple of decent tables given a nice view over the muddy banks at low tide. Loads of better places around the docks but does have a snob value to be seen there, very sad people indeed.
