“Great afternoon spent here.”
Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

This is an excellent little museum. Check the opening times but is well worth a visit. Nice little tea room. The exhibits are interesting. Try and catch the guided tour of the electric tram. You are allowed to climb on board a lot of the buses coaches. But remember the volunteers spend a lot of time restoring the exhibits. Some of this work you can see as well.

“Extremely entertaining”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

From moment you enter staff so friendly and helpful. Not only full of varying types of transport - even some you don't immediately think of as transport from prams to cranes and even a Sinclair C5 - but also full of local history. On the day we went there was a free bus (1970's style) running to and from the centre, but as we had driven there we were able to go on the full 40 minute round trip. Staff all very knowledgeable and tea/coffee shop good value. All in all good value and very enjoyable.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

As an Ipswich lad I loved my last visit to the Transport Museum. Its a great collection of vehicles and transport related memorabilia very much Ipswich focussed. We spent several hours climbing on and off the old Ipswich busses in the collection, reading up on the history of public transport in the town and generally reminiscing. Its not a flash museum with masses of interactive stuff, but a good honest collection which anyone local and probably of certain age will find fascinating, and if a bit younger, then a lot of the vehicles are quite hands on.

“A wonderful place to visit!”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

So much to see and learn about the region's transport history. An impressive collection of vehicles and Interesting memorabilia. Loved the orange and cream Bedford coach in particular, and the beautiful tram. If only modern day buses, coaches and trains could look like they used to!

“Better than some professional museums”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This museum is well worth a visit - especially for a transport enthusiast! I am not (my husband is), but I still enjoyed the wonderful display of restored vehicles and the old prams, bikes and lawn mowers! (Yes - lawn mowers - manufactured locally).
There is a lot of information on very well written and well presented boards - much better than some professional museums. You can get on some of the buses and on some occasions they run a 'vintage bus service' to and from the town centre. Check the website for details of opening times and events.

We visited on an 'event' weekend - Engineering Ipswich. We had a free trip on an old bus around the sites of former engineering companies - most now no longer in existence or in the area. It was very interesting - even for someone who is not an 'Ipswich Girl'.

This museum is run by volunteers who care about the public and want them to enjoy their visit.
They work hard to restore the vehicles - there is an old tram that has been restored from being found used as an apple shed, a trolleybus that was home to two elderly spinsters, and they are in the process of restoring an old horse tram they have recently acquired. The restoration work is amazing. Well worth the entrance fee.
The whole place is clean and tidy and child friendly as well.

Do visit if you can, and see the work of some very dedicated volunteers.
