I was recommended to dine in this restaurant by a friend who had experienced what she described as the perfect lunch and venue. it was a spontaneous decision to call the restaurant at 6pm on Wednesday and was welcomed to the restaurant at 8.30pm. The bar on the ground floor was quiet but the first floor restaurant was alive with a party group, people celebrating and diners of just couples enjoying time together. The menu was easy to choose from and everyone seemed pleased to receive perfectly presented dishes. We chose from the set 3-course menu at £18.95 and this was no compromise. Haddock fishcake starter with a perfect poached egg followed by Rib-eye steak and finally chocolate brownie, ice cream and crème-anglaise.
we choose 4 different glasses of wine all 250ml and all extremely good as well as sparkling water and the entire bill was easily received.
The two main table staff were able to present the food effortlessly and with perfect timing. When it seemed that service started to get busy additional staff would arrive from the floor below to help when required.
From where I was sitting I noticed that throughout the evening all but one table had been filled and I could only observe happy people enjoying the great atmosphere, food and hospitality on offer.
My only disappointment was that whilst we were met on arrival by who I believe to be the proprietor, this same gentleman was working on his computer on a corner table in the bar when we left and I didn't feel that he was approachable under these circumstances to pass on my thanks. Hopefully this review has achieved this instead.
