“The joy of a flushing loo!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We stayed at the guesthouse because we were having a new bathroom and they were just round the corner from where we live, although we knew nothing about them. They were very accommodating about our stay, even when plumbers forced an alteration on us, and consequently, we slept in several rooms, and can recommend them all. Ensuites were small but perfectly adequate for the purpose. As we usually breakfast on cereal, the Sidegate breakfast was an excellent start to the day and the black pudding was particularly good. We parked in front and with a primary school opposite, would avoid leaving between 8.30 and 9 in the morning as there were lots of children and parents. If we didn't already live in Ipswich, we would certainly stay there again!

Room Tip: The single rooms are child size.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, it was - as are all of the reviews we receive - very much appreciated. However, we feel we ought to clarify the Room Tip information about our en suite single bedrooms. We have two - one is larger than the other and when we bought the guesthouse we felt that the 4' 6" bed in it made the room rather cramped so we changed it to a single with a full size single bed. The other smaller bedroom also has a full size single bed and we make a point of advising all guests - in advance of their stay - that whilst it has everything in it that all the other bedrooms have, it IS small and is therefore priced accordingly.

Meanwhile, we are always available to help guests who are leaving in their cars to cross the pavement at school times if needed.

Sidegate House was a perfect combination for our overnight stay previous to our cruise out of Harwich the following day. The walking tour from the Visitor's Center provided us with an outstanding experience of the old English town. Conversely, we were treated to wonderfully comfortable accomodations at the guest house that evening. Our full breakfast of local products was outstanding as was the professional and courteous manner of our hosts.

We were there for three days and loved every minute of it. Beautiful rooms, amazing bed, plenty of space, super breakfast and above all: the two most friendliest people of Ipswich as hosts. They do everything possible for you to make you feel at home. Parking space in front of the house and easy to find. Will certainly come back here.

This B & B is more than you can expect. Immaculate throughout. Cannot but highly praise the owners for running it so well. How best to describe the experience? ... Perfection and warmth.
Highly recommended,

I stayed on two occasions in August 2012. This is such a welcoming guest house, a home from home, and was a joy to stay in. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Sidegate Guest House which is a 30-40minute walk from Ipswich centre, with easy access to bus routes and main roads.

My niece and I stayed in sidegate guest house for 2 nights in August 2012, we found it to be spotless in every way and of a very high standred indeed. We were able to make tea and coffee in the room with a nice little packet of biscuits to have with it. there were very nice toiletries in the shower room and fresh towels every day and plenty of hot water. The breakfast was really good with choice of juice, cereal, and fresh fruit. Our order was taken for cooked breakfast with a good choice of lovely fresh cooked items. The owners were a very nice couple who were very helpful without being in your face all the time. All in all a very plesant stay and I would highly recommend this guesthouse.

Room Tip: All rooms looked to be of a high standard

What a beautiful Guest House. Richard and Sally are so welcoming. Everything you could want and nothing too much trouble. Fresh fruit, fresh coffee, gorgeous breakfasts, wonderful beds. The best nights sleep away from home! And if you are a dog lover the cutest Brown Labrador you ever did see.

Well Done to you both xx
