“Fabulous - never been anywhere better!”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We went to Mamma Rosa's because our B&B didn't do evening meals and it was close enough to walk to from the Promenade. We were pleasently surprised from the moment we walked in. Mamma Rosa is set in a house and as such has an intimate, cosy feel. It doesn't have lots of flashy signs outside, but head along Mostyn Ave past the Chinese and Indian and its just on the left.
Expect to be welcomed warmly but busily as it was almost always being waited by a single waiter; who seats, greets, serves and clears with eternal cheer and kindness. We liked the small downstairs seating area - only 12 tables and the fact that everything is cooked freshly to order.
This is advised in the menu and as such, patrons are requested to be patient in busy times, but we never waited long at all and was another great feature!

Several nights we had the steak and this was impecably cooked; tender and tasty. We had no problem requestin to swap veg for salad or one portion to share between two etc. The steak diane had a wonderful & plentiful rich sauce. Other dishes we tried were starters: Melon & Parma Ham and Prawn Cocktail, mains: lasagne, desserts: tiramisu and ice cream. Prices could be as little as £25 for two people having 2 courses and a drink or as much as £55 (the same) but with different food. Portion sizes are very good indeed so for something like the lasagne, don't be afraid to ask for the smaller size!

The service, considering it was often only one person serving was impecable and to a very high standard. The waiter (who I believe also runs it - its a real shame we didn't get his name) always has time to greet you and have a little chat, often checks that all is well and by our second visit, had or drinks ready as soon as we walked in and knew how we took our meat etc!

Friday nights can (obviously) be a lot busier and as such some of the lovely atmosphere can be lost in the loud voices of many guests and large groups. Also some young girls were helping to serve and were not as good or as well-presented as our favourite Italian waiter! Another tip is to call them to make sure there is room for you, especialy if there are 3 or more of you - as space can be limited, but people do wait outside sometimes!

Overall, we expected a commercial chain with mass-produced food and got instead a personal service with excellent food. I 100% recommend the steak (inc steak diane) and the tiramisu!! We found it so welcoming and wonderful and were touched to get hand shakes and goodbye kisses on our last night in Wales. The food is top-rate and nothing is to much for them - all the staff (inc the chef) were very helpful. We felt like we were in a home away from home and definately encourage you to try it yourself!
If you're staying on or near the seafront, why bother driving into town for fast-food when Mamma Rosa is right there?
Great value for money all-round.

“Good food with friendly staff!”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

We were in Wales for the weekend for a friends wedding and needed somewhere to eat on the Friday night. We looked on trip advisor and found Mamma Rossa which we decided to try. We turned up about 7pm without booking and they said they could squeeze us in, even though the place was empty. It did however soon fill up! The waiter was very friendly and attentive. There were 4 of us dining and we ordered a starter each, 2 garlic breads to share, 2 steak dishes, a pasta dish and a pizza. We also had 2 desserts between us and a bottle of wine and a few soft drinks. The total price was £115 which isn't bad for what we had! The food was good, the steaks were more medium than medium rare as ordered but still tasty. The veg was also good, not soggy like a lot of veg can be! Althought there was nothing wrong with our food as such it didn't blow me away, hence the 4 stars rather than 5. One of the waitresses was also a little quiet and unfriendly.

Overall the food and service were good and if we were ever in the area again and fancied an Italian we would definitely return.
