“Tasty lunch!”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

We had a lovely lunch, the brocolli and cheddar soup was delicious. I had it with just a cheese and tomato sandwich, but even that was tasty, made with nice fresh bread and a side salad. Do visit, this place is a little gem, be careful you don't walk past it as it is an upstairs restaurant, easily missed.

“confused”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 via mobile

Came here with my fiance a few weeks ago and had nice food with with really good customer service, the staff were absolutky fantastic and so friendly. Overall though I didnt know where I was eating, the mix of french wine bar and south africa for me just dosnt fit, felt like the restaurant has a bit of an identity problem, the menue has a large selection with some exotic south african dishes which included crocodile, my fiance chose this and loved it so I tried some but its not for me.

Dear confused,

I wonder if you might have heard of cognitive dissonance?

We are delighted that you and your "fiance" really enjoyed the meal and thought the service was exceptional, but for some or other reason, felt necessary to mark us punitively as only a 3/5' and anonymously, because you felt "lost". It is regretful that you felt confused about our identity, and have somehow convinced yourself that we are a French wine bar serving African food. Let me take you by the proverbial hand and resolve that for you;

We are not a South African / French wine bar. We are a contemporary restaurant specialising in Welsh and South African fare. It says so clearly on our advertising boards, and paragraph one of page one on the menus. Our wine selections are from all continents and regions of the world, less than 10% of our wines are French although we have an excellent Claret and a waiter called Manuel.

We are located at 107 Mostyn Street in Llandudno (North Wales, in the United Kingdom).

Our menu is set out into 5 sections, which you must have overlooked, or not understood in English.

They are;

Welsh specialities (meaning Welsh ingredients cooked using Welsh recipes), Out of Africa meaning African ingredients using African recipes, (as you might have guessed we don't farm crocodiles in Wales, yet), Traditional British Fare (I suppose gammon egg and chips, steak and onion pie, cottage pie and lasagne could all be construed as French, if the word "Le" is inserted for each item), From the Ocean (generally meaning seafood, hence all the fish dishes), and From the Grill (the clue being only Welsh steaks listed in this section).

There are a number of possible reasons you might have not understood that we are not a South African / French wine bar, (a) you didn't read the menu or (b) it wasn't in a language you understood, (c) you have confused us with a South African / French wine bar of a similar name, or (d) you are just taking the Mick trying to provoke a response to your arbitrary and asinine views.

If you had reading difficulties (I do, if I don't have my glasses!), we would of course been more than happy to have read the menu to you or find you some reading glasses. We would have been equally delighted to translate the menu into any language you understand, had you indicated your confusion at the time of the alleged visit.

Well done for trying the crocodile - like fine wine, tiramisu and being nice - it isn't for everyone.

I see from your previous posts that you have been fiance'ed up for some time now, doing Bonney and Clyde styled reviews on places you hang out in. Do introduce yourself should you visit our restaurant again, so I can personally ensure you are crystal clear about who we are, where we are and what food and wine we specialise in. I would like to avoid another arbitrary and derogatory review, that conflicts with the vast majority of our positive real customer reviews on this and other credible review sites.

Such a lovely atmosphere, you can't get any better. The decor is so pretty, you never run out of things to look at! Once you have seen the menu you will have to go back- because you'll want to try everything :) I think I'll have to be brave and try some crocodile this time round..
Thank you again for an excellent time, I'm dying to visit again soon!

“Read tripadvisor”
Reviewed June 30, 2014 via mobile

In Llandudno & read tripadvisor for restaurants & decided to try Cambridge mostyn. Despite asking a taxi driver & 2 policemen who all stated there was no African/Welsh restaurant in Llandudno we found it. What a excellent find, great menu, plenty of choices we all tried the South African Hake which was excellent variety of tastes, followed by the African milk tart. ( can I have the recipe ).

Really glad you found us! Shame about the poor local knowledge you were given.

The local police's lack of knowledge about us is not surprising, they more familiar with McDonald's as their preferred hang out spot every night (you can set you'd watch to their gatherings), where they hang out in gaggles of fluorescent jackets, purveyors of instant coffee and time passing on lucrative night shifts.

We are in eyesight of the taxi rank on the top end of Mostyn Street, there are a few taxi drivers who we know personally that are very knowledgeable on local restaurants and businesses, we have business cards of those we recommend very highly!

We are delighted you enjoyed the Cape Hake and the Milk Tart! Like all really good family recipes, it remains a secret, but it will be available again on your next visit! You should try the Babotie or Crocodile on your next visit, you won't be disappointed!

Thank you for making the effort to find us, we agree with your sentiments; read Tripadvisor to make an informed decision on where to dine in Llandudno.

If you haven't booked yet, call us on 01492 879334 to book your table now, we are also launching a live online booking facility in the coming weeks. See you soon!
