Description: Watkins Co restaurant in Llandudno is an equation that comes out right every time. Take an award-winning restaurant, set it in one of Llandudnos top hotels, create an historic Victorian dining stuffed with formal elegance, add in an inventive chef with a dab hand at classic favourites and its elementary -- Watkins is a hit. Half the menu is seasonal, locally-sourced a la carte deliciousness, while the other half is a daily-changing table dhote menu offering excellent value. People love the home-made lasagne and the daily roast, but we recommend the more inventive creations, too. Watkins Cos service, impressive childrens menu and a pocket-friendly wine list get top marks.

My family and I decided to go there for my sisters 30th. The food was ok but the service was appalling. 10 minutes to wait at the bar with one guy serving. The beer is expensive at nearly four pound a pint. Only two strong beers in draught and no cider. Then into the restaurant where we were told we had three minutes to order. The waitresses then shouted out the orders when the food arrived 'CHICKEN' 'DUCK' then threw it infront of us. Make sure you settle your bill before 11pm if paying by card they turn off the machine leaving me having to walk to the ATM to get cash. The staff then walked out if the restaurant in there coats to go home. Surely there must be a side door? As soon as the resident DJ finished his last track he quickly packed up and practically ran out of the door. A lot of foriegn staff but not necessarily the reason for the poor service I think management need to get a grip. That was the last time we will be going there. There are a lot nicer places in the area to eat where service is s lot better.

Whilst I cannot disagree with fellow reviewers as to the value aspect of the meal, I do have to take issue with the quality. The speed at which our starters were served after ordering could only have been possible if they had been lined up ready to go. The satay chicken was reformed dark meat and tepid. The peanut sauce thin and runny. The main courses were varied in quality. Couldn't fault the lamb shanks, the steak was average but the roast pork was a roll of meat rather like school dinners and could have been from any animal, lacked any 'pork' flavour at all. All sauces, ie mint and apple had to be requested, then were spooned onto our plates, we weren't allowed to keep them on the table. The puddings also arrived at the speed of light and I suspect had been modelled on those from a popular frozen food store. The white wine was warm and the red wine vile. Coffee couldn't be taken in the lounge as the hotel was full of guests (totally fair enough) we had it on sofas that lined the route to the toilet, so we were obstructing guests going to the loo, as luck would have it, the coffee was so tepid, we could drink it quickly and be on our way. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, but we felt as if we were on a conveyor belt and the aim was to get us 'through the system' as speedily as possible. I wasn't expecting fine dining but I was hoping for better than was delivered.
