I'm afraid I must be more discerning than many of the reviews posted for this hotel. I travel frequently and stay in some very good hotels so I think my review is honest but not gushing. The service was good, but no better than many of the B & B's and hotels in Llandudno. The location is excellent – prime seafront, which makes it well worth the short walk to the restaurants and shops.
The public areas of the hotel are tastefully, recently refurbished, clean and comfortable. David and Michael have put lots of personal touches into the hotel and this makes it welcoming and different without being pretentious.
We stayed in room 23, a premium double with a lovely sea view but which I don’t think merits the gushing reviews posted elsewhere. The 4 poster bed was very uncomfortable, the bed hard and the pillows not very soft. The furniture is tired and old fashioned. The TV is a small 16 inch portable that we could not view from bed unless we relocated it because of the bed posts. The bathroom was very small with an electric shower that lacked power and had variable heat! The toilet did not flush well, the towels are barely bigger than hand towels and the worse crime – the floor is carpeted. A total no-no in any bathroom let alone a hotel!
Breakfast: there was not much choice of fruit, tinned grapefruit and prunes and nothing fresh! There was cereal and yogurt. The cooked breakfast was well presented and tasty (poached eggs cooked to perfection) but it would have been nice for the toast to turn up with the cooked breakfast, not 10 minutes before.
My review may seem negative but I feel it is honest. I would recommend the hotel but there are many just as good, and better, in Llandudno.

Warm and welcoming hotel; room clean and spacious; friendly, easy going people, nothing is a problem - Dave and Mike were very helpful; excellent breakfast; dinner menu looked good although we chose to go out for a meal; will definitely be going back to this hotel soon.

There's a reason that this hotel has been voted number one in Llandudno and number 2 in the whole country! They have just about done everything right. It is not flashy or spectacular, it is simply a lovely, cosy place to stay, with nice clean simple decoration (all just a few years old.)
It is in the customer service where it really excels - nothing is too much trouble, and extra effort is put in to make your stay a memorable one. We paid just £38 each a night, and included in that is an excellent breakfast. The meat is all sourced locally - you really can tell - there is no cutting corners here.
All this and dog friendly too! You really wouldn't want to be staying anywhere else in this pretty little resort - I simply cannot imagine anywhere better.

We had a really great stay at Can y Bae. The hotel is extremely clean and very well kept. Mike and Dave do a tremendous job and are most welcoming. They do their utmost to take of you while on holiday. The breakfast is excellent - plenty of choice and well cooked. Will certainly return.

We wanted a complete rest - a 'get away from it all' few days, and this is what we got at this lovely hotel. We had room 15 which has a beautiful sea view. Our only criticism is that the room is a bit small, and the bathroom is also on the small side. However, everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Michael and David are perfect hosts, and couldn't do enough for us. We chose a bitterly cold few days for our break, but the hotel was always lovely and warm and welcoming, with beautifully carpeted lounge and bar areas. The breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of choice. Because it was so cold, we decided to eat at the hotel each night, and the food was varied and tasty. The dining room is fairly small and intimate, which is nice. It is beautifully decorated and has a homely feel. We had a great stay and hope to be back as Llandudno is such a good base for a holiday, and the Can-y-Bae ideally placed in the town - just hope we have warmer weather next time!

We took our son with us for a weekend stay at the Can-y-Bae. The owners David and Michael were excellent hosts, who went to great pains to make us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they looked after us very well. My husband had recently had an accident which made getting about very difficult. The extra help given to us was very much appreciated.

They even went out of their way to find us a place to stay for an extra night when they themselves were fully booked and could not accommodate us.

The hotel was kept spotless and the family room we had was very comfortable, equipped with lots of little extras to make it feel a regular home from home.

We did not have an evening meal there but if breakfast is anything to go by it will be top notch. The service at breakfast time was speedy and the food piping hot.

We will definately be going again and would recommend the Can-y-Bae to anyone who is looking for somwhere a little bit special to stay
