Lucky for us my wife's sister and husband found the Hilary and recommended it to us.
Primarily you have to remember this is a guest house run and staffed by the owners Debbie and Colin, it is not a large hotel, although having now stayed at the Hilary I am wondering why I would want to stay at a big hotel when just on a short visit.
We haven't stayed in a guesthouse for many years and to be honest maybe wouldn't have thought of trying one this time if it hadn't been for the recommendation. Believe me being picky about where to stay seems to run in my wife's family, so we felt reassured knowing that family had stayed on more than a couple of occasions.
What can you say, so let's get down to the nitty gritty, the room and en-suite was spotless and well appointed, two chocolates in their own little box left on the bed each day was a very nice touch for the ladies (and me if I'm honest) Deborah and Colin (with their two young girls in the background) were excellent hosts.
Think we may have ended up with a smaller room than some (we booked last minute so had to choose from what was available) but we still had two chairs and a small table, compact dressing table wall mounted TV plus two bedside cabinets and an spotless en-suite which was a good size. The inbuilt double wardrobe may have been a bit tight if staying longer than a few nights, but then my wife doesn't travel light (nor do I to come to that) so that comment might be a bit unnecessary, the room was actually plenty adequate for our stay.
Colin let me think he cooked the breakfast but I can't believe there wasn't input from Deborah it was too good for a male only effort and freshly cooked to order. You won't need to top up much at lunch time either as they don't skimp when plating it up, plus they provide a small continental style breakfast buffet table.
Small on size but not necessarily on content. They manage to squeeze on almost as much as you would find in a big hotel. You know, selection of fruit, cereal, fruit juice, etc.
Don't be put of by the location either, it may be set back in what is a pleasant residential area but you can cut through to the main areas of Llandudno in very short walk distance. So you have the best of both worlds, easy parking, where the car can be left without worry of parking tickets or it getting bumped and all the main areas of Llandudno easily reached on foot.
In our experience anybody finding fault with this excellent guest house would have to be seriously searching for something to complain about.
