Description: Welcome to Characters Teahouse and Hot Stone Restaurant. A secret to be found. Tucked away in a side street we are not easy to find. But when you do you are in for a big surprise. We are different to say the least..You could say quirky and you would be right. Old second hand china, cups, saucers, plates, glasses, furniture etc all bought from charity shops and completely mismatched giving the place character and ambiance hence the name Characters. Food is wholesome and unpretentious ,soups, sandwiches, hand made cakes & scones of different flavours forming the basis of our now famous Afternoon Tea. Accompanied by proper loose leaf tea & coffee of your choice we are open daytime 11am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. In the evening Friday & Saturday serving from 6.30pm to 8.00pm our also famous "Steak on the Stone" Accompanied by "Bring your Own" wine, beer or champagne. Whenever you decide to visit you will be greeted with a big welcome from the staff & management of this lovely family run restaurant..hopefully see you soon. Characters Team

Visited here while on a short break with my mother .The welcome was warm and the afternoon tea not to be missed .The restaurant is decorated with a wide variety of bits and bobs both old and new giving it a quirky but stylish feel .The folks who run it are really friendly and immediately make you feel welcome . Afternoon tea served on vintage china was fantastic value for money and we were able choose which sandwiches/cake/scones we had .Would like to have tried the Steak on the stone evening if we'd had time .We will definitely plan a return visit and would highly recommend

“Comfortably Quirky - a unique evening experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

We loved Characters where we received a very warm and friendly welcome. We were recommended the Steak on the Stone meal which is available on a Friday and Saturday evening. The main meals have to be pre-ordered when you book - but this is fine. My hubby and I enjoyed a very tasty Welsh Black rib eye steak with a perfectly cooked jacket potato and honey roasted vegetables. It is not licenced but you can take your own drinks. The restaurant is quirky and homely - it enjoys a wonderful selection of mismatched chairs and ceiling lights, cosy cushions and is delightfully decorated giving the restaurant its perfect name. It's definitely worth a visit. Lovely evening thanx

“Lovely Birthday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Booked her for my birthday lunch and what a brilliant little place. Tucked away from the main streets but what a little gem. Very busy even on a winters afternoon. Afrernoon Tea is to die for as are the warm ginger scones. The couple that run the place are very friendly and couldnt do enough for us excellent service with a smile. We will definately be returning and hopefully very soon. A wondeful quirkly little team room offering excellent food.
