Description: Welcome to Characters Teahouse and Hot Stone Restaurant. A secret to be found. Tucked away in a side street we are not easy to find. But when you do you are in for a big surprise. We are different to say the least..You could say quirky and you would be right. Old second hand china, cups, saucers, plates, glasses, furniture etc all bought from charity shops and completely mismatched giving the place character and ambiance hence the name Characters. Food is wholesome and unpretentious ,soups, sandwiches, hand made cakes & scones of different flavours forming the basis of our now famous Afternoon Tea. Accompanied by proper loose leaf tea & coffee of your choice we are open daytime 11am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. In the evening Friday & Saturday serving from 6.30pm to 8.00pm our also famous "Steak on the Stone" Accompanied by "Bring your Own" wine, beer or champagne. Whenever you decide to visit you will be greeted with a big welcome from the staff & management of this lovely family run restaurant..hopefully see you soon. Characters Team

“Fabulous - what a memory”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

We had booked this restaurant having seen it recommended on TripAdvisor. We spoke with Brett a couple of days prior to arriving, as he needed to pre-order from his local source, whatever meat we wanted. He made it clear it was a limited choice of meat (usually steak) which was cooked on a stone at the table, accompanied with roasted vegetables and a jacket potato. My husband opted for steak, and as I prefer vegetarian I asked for goats cheese..... They only open during the evenings at a weekend depending on if they have bookings! It was great to actually speak with someone rather than just exchanging emails, and we were looking forward to seeing what it was like.
We have both agreed it was the most wonderful, enjoyable meal we have had - at times a little surreal! Sitting in a shop, with vintage bits and pieces around (cutlery/crockery/glasses..) not to mention the chandeliers and decoration! it was certainly retro - and just so unusual. The choice of starters was great, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed cooking his own steak. My goats cheese was served on red onion, and was to die for. Brett also offers Halloumi cheese as an alternative. The desserts were absolutely fantastic. Just remember to take your own wine..
We can't agree which part of the evening was the best - the food (excellent), surroundings (fab) - and the service (like nothing else) given by Brett, Annie and Nathan just made what could have been a nice evening out into a memory which will stay with us.
We have eaten in many restaurants, ranging from really expensive to just good pub food - and can honestly say that Characters is like nothing else - it really is an experience.
Good luck to them for the future, and we will certainly return.

This is a great little place with lovely afternoon teas and sandwiches.
Bret and Annie are so friendly and make you feel so at home. Look out for Bret whizzing around Llandudno in his little car..... So cool

“First Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

My wife and I visited the Character tea room on Saturday and was given the warmest of welcomes by the hosts Annie and Bret.I ordered the home made soup which was Pea and Ham and it was the tastiest soup I have ever had, along with freshly made sandwiches. My wife also had sandwiches which came with dressed salad and potato crisps. The tea was served in china cups and saucers together with a china teapot, which complimanted this lovely lunch.A return is imminent.
