Description: Welcome to Characters Teahouse and Hot Stone Restaurant. A secret to be found. Tucked away in a side street we are not easy to find. But when you do you are in for a big surprise. We are different to say the least..You could say quirky and you would be right. Old second hand china, cups, saucers, plates, glasses, furniture etc all bought from charity shops and completely mismatched giving the place character and ambiance hence the name Characters. Food is wholesome and unpretentious ,soups, sandwiches, hand made cakes & scones of different flavours forming the basis of our now famous Afternoon Tea. Accompanied by proper loose leaf tea & coffee of your choice we are open daytime 11am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. In the evening Friday & Saturday serving from 6.30pm to 8.00pm our also famous "Steak on the Stone" Accompanied by "Bring your Own" wine, beer or champagne. Whenever you decide to visit you will be greeted with a big welcome from the staff & management of this lovely family run restaurant..hopefully see you soon. Characters Team

“Characters at night!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2012

Found out that characters were opening Friday and Saturday nights for dinner, and having been a few times for coffee and light lunches and been thrilled with the experience, wanted to try their evening menu. As we arrived the restaurant looked absolutely delightful and welcoming on a cold damp night, lit by candles. You bring your own wine as they are not licensed. The starters and puddings were delightful, taking all that they do brilliantly during the day to the next level. The unique point is the main courses - you choose at time of booking what you would like, I.e., steak, lamb, tuna, salmon etc., and then it is presented to you on a hot stone for you to cook to your liking, with vegetables, baked potato and sauces on the side! Wow, what fun but don't think that this is a gimmick, the flavours were amazing. Our table had steak and tuna, and all agreed that it was amongst the best we had eaten. To sum up, you can read just how good characters is from all the other reviews. They have taken everything that is wonderful from their daytime operation - their atmosphere, their friendliness, their care, the quality of their food - and added this unique slant for the evening. If you were looking for recommendation, we have immediately rebooked for next week, and I don't think that my recommendation could come higher than that!

“Warm welcome, good food & drink...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

Like many, many other people, we went here based on reviews on TripAdvisor. Can't really add much to what has already been written. I had soup - of which there was a good choice and range, and which was delicious - and a tea. The owners are very friendly and sociable.

Would definitely visit again when in the area!

I'm sure the food I didn't have is as good as the people here describe.

“As good as everyone says!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

This lovely coffee shop was everything we were hoping for. A warm welcome and a very comfortable sofa for us to collapse onto. Afternoon tea was delicious with fresh tasty sandwiches and cakes. There is a choice of inventive and delicious scones. We tried the choc chip. Yum!
Really friendly owners with attention to the customer which creates a relaxing and homely atmosphere. If we would didn't live two hundred miles away it would be on our list of regular haunts. We look forward to returning next October!

“The best thing to happen in Llandudno in a long time”

We are very lucky to have this so close to home. Impossible to leave without having some of their cakes even if we did only go in for their really nice soup! Looking forward to my fillet steak next week.

“Best afternoon tea ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

We went to Characters after reading how good it was on tripadvisor. We were stunned by just how nice this tea shop was. The afternoon tea was perfect, sandwiches fresh and tasty. Fresh scone with cream and jam, and the choice of cakes was superb. All this with lovely surroundings, friendly staff and owners. Real tea with strainer served in china tea cups was just the iceing on the cake!.
We also had a two year old who was made to feel welcome. I don't want to rave about it too much as we have a holiday home in Llandudno and will be going here a lot so don't want it too busy, but it is only right to say good things about places that make your experience special. Well done to everyone at Characters and we look forward to seeing you soon! Darren and Claire
