The Grand Hotel - Llandudno

We booked in for a short break Friday 22nd Nov. The decor of the hotel transports you back to the late Victorian period with lovely decorative features throughout. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is tired and reflects its age with creaky floorboards and threadbare carpet and soft furnishings in some areas. This adds to its charm and character. This hotel offers value for money with a friendly, attentive team of staff. we had booked in for b & b but we paid the extra and had the evening meal on Friday. It was Turkey and tinsel ( a new experience for us) and the food was tasty, homely and traditional in a hot and cold buffet style. As we enjoyed the food, we opted to have the evening meal on Sat also (Christmas dinner) . Breakfast was hearty and tasty with a good selection of hot and cold , from yogurt and cereal to a full English. Our room was on the top floor,as,requested, with gorgeous views of Llandudno and the sea. The room decor was tired, but clean. the bed was comfy and bedding clean and fresh. Plenty of hot water available and the hotel felt warm and cosy. We did have three bulbs out when we arrived and informed staff on our check out. (Didn't bother until then as the lighting was adequate.) Our window was a little dirty on the inside. A little more attention to detail would have been appreciated. can't really comment on the entertainment as we didn't stay to see. Thoroughly enjoyed our short break. We extended by one night. Would stay again for the right price.

Not the best stay we have had ! My husband got white gloss on his black shirt at dinner no signs saying wet paint another guest said the sign saying wet paint was there at breakfast (we didnt see this as it was our first time in restaurant !? The chefs were going to public toilets with their full chef whites on ? The dinner plates even tho were hot were also dirty , thefood was cold on the first night even tho we were there 30 mins after service began ? The toilets were disgusting & there were broken seats in the gents , the ladies smelt pretty bad . There was a hole in our bathroom wall that was filled with wet toilet roll . Overall a terrible stay that was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away .

Room Tip: Try another hotel !

The grand hotel is in a lovely position overlooking the sea. We only paid £39 for B&B for the two of us which I consider to be good value. Our room had a sea view. Yes the hotel is extremely tired and desperately needs some money spending on it as it is very dated. The standard of cleanliness throughout is pretty poor but at least our beds were clean and extremely comfortable! The breakfast is a buffet style where you can eat as much as you like. The staff are friendly and all work very hard. I know it would be a huge project and the cost would be huge but I would love to see this beautiful hotel restored to its former glory.

Room Tip: Request a sea view room as the view is beautiful.

Great hotel with great entertainment and a great atmosphere. Just the place for chilling indoors, walking along the beach or musing around llandudno. The hotel has a small quiet room for reading or watching tv. A large bar area with TV and later night entertainment. And a large lower ground Cabaret show room for the earlier evening bingo and shows. The resident singer Stacey brown is a cracking young singer. Start off in the cabaret room for the bingo and show. Move up to the bar area for late night karaoke. Very friendly atmosphere. Loved it. The food in the ample dining room was of a very good standard. The bedrooms are ok. A bit old fashioned behind the scenes but adequate for sleeping in. The hotel offers a great retreat for chilling in the bar, great food and great entertainment. Great position if you fancy climbing the orme. Lovely views over the pier, beach and sea. £3.00 for a pint of lager. £1.50 to park over the road for the day between 10 and 4. Free overnight. Lovely stay, can't wait to go back. Ignore the nitpickers. The bedrooms and lifts are old fashioned but plenty to do rather than sitting in your bedroom noting the outdated furnishings. The rooms were a little cold but the hotel itself was warm and inviting. Enjoy the superb facilities and the beautiful surroundings. They far outweigh a slightly outdated room which is for sleeping in. Top weekend.

This was a grand hotel in it’s time. Unfortunately there has never been the investment required to maintain any part of the hotel. All facilities and locations are in a poor state and to their credit, the staff carry out a difficult job well with this tired old hotel. For a little extra money you would be able to find better value, quality and service.

Stayed last night,on the 5th floor, no heating, tv with 2 channels, wardrobe on the verge of collapse, horrible musty smell, bathroom cold and unappealing, creaking floorboards is an understatement, the lift from the 4th to 5th floor hasn't been cleaned for some time and as you come out of the lift there is a fag butt which I suspect is still there, there is no excuse for that kind of dirt, if the owners expect their paying guests to stay in such dirty conditions then they have no respect for their guests and therefor don't deserve any!

me and my other half stayed at the hotel last night, we played for a standard double room, bot sea view and where allocated a sea view room, the view was very nice, although a little to cold to stand outside to look, we stil enjoyed the view from the inside, we where very impressed with the fact we where in a sea view room, the staff on reception on our arrival where helpful and friendly, although on checkout we copied everyone else and left our key on the desk after waiting around 7 minutes for somekne to come out onto the desk. The only downfall would be how noisy our balcony door was, when opening and closing, the quilts weren't very thick, at all, they where ok though for the price we payed and the Tele was a little out of date and when warching we had lines running down the screen. Nevertheless we where impressed that we had the choose of using extra pillows which where stored in the wardrobe, and we both had a comfortable sleep,we would deffinately stay again!
