Thank you so much for your fab review. I am so glad you had a good weekend.
In your wife's defence; the Cliff Richard tribute was an excellent act and even when I spoke to him personally at the Front Desk he sounded like Cliff Richard. He even brought 'Hank Marvin' with him and the feedback I received from all the guests about him and the Diana Ross tribute was excellent.

Me and my partner booked from Sunday until today (Tuesday) and really feel like we need to share our experiences with you all.
Yes the hotel is dated, weather beaten and in need of a good paint, however, the hotel is cheap and self-certified 2 star rating, so we didn't expect a lot. We had 2 complaints.
1) on the first day we went down for the buffet breakfast where my partner had a nice full English including beans. The next morning we returned. My partner saw no beans so enquired only to be told " sorry, you can't have any as they are for premier customers". This complaint is laughable, however as paying guests they shouldn't have said no,also beans really aren't classed as "premier food". This however was not our main concern.
2) This morning I woke up early and had a lie in. Unfortunately after 5 minutes it became very apparent that the mattress smelt very strongly of stale urine. Although the covers were clean the mattress smelt really bad. After a along shower we made our way to the downstairs but couldn't really say anything as the other guests were making their way to the food hall they were being asked to apply hand sanitizer before entering the hall. I didn't want to make people have more to worry about. I have since written to the hotel's head office but as of yet have had no reply.
If I do ever get a reply I will post the reply on here as I do believe everyone has the right to have their say. but for now all I can say is...don't stay there, pay a few more pounds and actually enjoy all that Llandudno has to offer.

Since returning home I have also been quite ill so I imagine the hand sanitizers were due to a bug perhaps. We'll never know

Room Tip: Unless the mattress is changed, Don't stay in room 230.

I do agree that it is silly to not be able to have beans and I have passed the comments to the kitchen staff and can only apologise.
Regarding the bed in Room 230. I can catergorically state the mattress did not smell of urine. I personally checked the bed with the Housekeeper and put my face to the mattress; the bed was clean and no smell was emanating from the matress whatsoever.
I cannot believe anyone would sleep for 2 nights on a mattress that smelt of urine and then never complained to the Duty Manager or gave any thought to the next guest occupying the room.
The hand sanitizer is used at the entrance to the Restaurant every winter as a precautionary measure to protect our guests from any viruses such as the flu and colds. This is because we operate a Buffet Service and each guest handles the utensils.

The Grand is a bit dated but we have just spent a brilliant weekend there and found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had upgraded to a premier room which we would recommend as you get a room with a view and the dining experience is a lot less busy. Food was reasonable and plentiful. The hotel is only a short walk from the main town and a stroll along the pier after dinner was good.

The only issue we had was the parking as we arrived in Llandudno on a very hot Friday afternoon the town was heaving and we spent an hour trying to find somewhere to park we eventually after a lot of driving up and down got onto the Pay and Display just around the corner from the hotel. Next time we are taking the train.

Room Tip: Go Premier

Thank you for your great review of our hotel and staff. It is indeed better to upgrade to a sea view or premier room as the views are fantastic and you were so lucky to have such fantastic weather for the time of year.
Parking was at a premium as the hotel was full to capacity; the hotel was hosting a wedding and Llandudno was hosting the Goldwing Light Parade which was a great success.
The train is a great option if you are visiting at a busy time in the year.

Only booked this incredible deal the night before we arrived. It was excellent. We booked a room with a sea-view, and it was wonderful to wake up on the 1st. October, open the curtains and balcony door, and have the sun rising gloriously over the sea as our view. The room itself was fine and the food was great. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. We can't wait to go back again, although we probably won't get that fabulous weather again (the last weekend in September 2011)

Thank you so much for taking the time for this great review. You were so lucky with the weather. As I sit here on 3rd October it is definitely autumnal so yes you were extremely fortunate to have lovely sunny weather on 1st October.
We are still a great hotel to stay in when the weather turns as we have entertainment 365 nights of the year and the bonus is it is much easier to park.

What a surprise we travelled from Australia and didn't know what we would get then driving in we saw the hotel sitting on the point near the pier. It was just great from there on.

the Grand is a very enjoyable hotel, can be seen as you walk along the long promenade in Llandudno as it has a dominate position high up over the pier and the great Orme behind.
if you are lucky enough like me to get a room with a bay view it is spectacular, the rooms have tiny balconies, so you can sit out and enjoy the sea air, the evening views with the bay all lit up is very nice.
the rooms are very comfortable, clean, but basic. no phones or hair-dryers.
tea coffee and kettle is provided.
the hotel is tired looking in parts, and old fashioned, which i think adds to it's character, you can see that in it's day it really was a Grand hotel.
the hotel provides good entertainment and special offers through the year i believe.
i was there with Enjoy travel who provided all our entertainment, we had the use of the two function rooms and the bar area for our sessions of Irish music.
could not fault the staff who were always polite and helpful.
breakfast very good, my friend and i liked to eat in the area where the windows looked out over the bay.
the evening meal was adequate, self-service, a good choice of meat but the fish was not good, veg over cooked which can't really be helped when in the hot trays for a long time, nice salad bar so you would never go hungry, and a very nice desert selection every evening, don't bother with the coffee which was like dish water served in the big vacuum flasks.
i would definitely stay in the grand again and would also recommend it to friends, not over priced and you gets what you pay for.
the biggest problem was the parking, no car park for such a large hotel, on road parking very limited, so if you moved your car you would be lucky to get another space. parking in Happy valley just beyond the hotel, £3 a day then £1:10 for over night, so it was a matter of going out and feeding the meters all weekend, a real nuisance. why is something not done with the waste ground at the side of the hotel, which would make a fantastic car park.

Room Tip: ask for a bay facing room

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review for your holiday.Enjoy Travel had a fabulous weekend and have booked for next September. It was a great weekend for the staff also to see all the irish dancing.I am so pleased to hear your favourable comments.
We have hairdryers at reception and there is a red phone on each landing for emergencies.
I have taken note of your comment regarding the fish and coffee and we will hopefully resolve these issues.
Britannia would love to own the land next door and make it into a Car Park but unfortunately it does not belong to the hotel and is in fact privately owned.
It was extremely busy on the weekend you were here so parking would have been at a premium but the charges are reasonable for a busy seaside resort.

Hi,
just got back from a long weekend with a party of 10 adults. We had a great time, entertainment was good, food was good, room could be better (had to go to Asda to buy a iron because there was none in our room).
The sea views are incredible and you must go up the Great Orme,I went up on the chairlift but there is a bus or train you can use.
The bar prices are very resonable,£2.40 a pint and £9.00 a bottle of wine, car parking is scarce unless you have a disabled badge.
To finish the staff are wonderfull.

So pleased to hear you and your group had a great weekend. We do actually have irons behind reception so you know for next time.
Very impressed that you went on the chairlift; not sure I would be that brave and at leat the weather has come good at last.
And finally I think my staff are wonderful too.
